Hello Chapter Members,
It's time to bring out the pumpkins,
Halloween costumes and decorate the front
porch. Happy Halloween to everyone!
I hope you are enjoying our chapter. We
have had some really great teachers this
year. Gwen topped it off with an adorable
Christmas tree in October. Thank you so
much, Gwen!
Also thanks to every volunteer in our
chapter who makes it so special bringing
treats and articles to sell or raffle.
Let's make this month interesting with
show and tell. Maybe you could bring some
interesting Christmas things since you
won't be putting them up for a few more
days. We would enjoy seeing them.
Are you aware that Nov. 9 is our last
painting meeting of the year! Our Dec. 14
meeting is a holiday party. Nanette and her
committee will have a full agenda on party
day. Then we will have completed one more
year of fun and painting
A big thank you to the members
who did a review of our bylaws. We
appreciate you taking time to explain things
and get it right.
Our new board has been elected and we
are looking forward to more fun and
painting. Since we have painted on
everything from oyster shells, glass and
pumpkins this year, I can't wait to see what
next year will bring!
It's time to turn in your memory boxes.
They go to Palm Mortuary so please bring
them to the Nov. 9 meeting.

As chairman of the Star Award
committee, I will have nomination
paperwork available to all members at the
November chapter meeting. This will be
your final opportunity to nominate someone
for the 2019 Star Award.
All non-profits require the hard work of
many hands, heads and hearts to attain
goals and remain vital. This is true of our
Silver State Tole and Decorative Painting
chapter. We couldn’t continue to exist
without the hard work of many individuals.
However, sometimes certain individuals
stand out from the crowd as a shining
example of what helps our organization
thrive. If you have noticed such a person,
now is your opportunity to reward them for
all their efforts. Please take a moment to
nominate someone for this honor.
Past award winners cannot receive the
award again. Those who have won and are
current members include: Patty Clark,
Cathy Frazier, Sheila Hughes, Sandy
Kilgour, Gwen Palmer, Barbara Paetzel, Pat
Pillen, Mary Robinson, and Sharon Shuster.

Sweets: Beth B. -- Pumpkin Bread.
Non-sweets: Sheila & Sue C.
Thank you Sue C., Cathy F. & me for the great snacks at the October meeting!
My word for November is “thankful.” I am very thankful for everyone who has
brought everything from nibbles to main entrees to a chapter meeting this year. It
has been an amazing smorgasbord of refreshments.
There are two things I will always ponder after I have painted all day…
1. If we're not meant to have midnight snacks, why is there a light in the fridge?
2. Pilates? I thought you said pie… & lattes!

Greetings Fellow Painters,
Teaching painting may not seem like your thing.
Maybe you feel you don’t have the time, or the ability.
But you may be more qualified than you think.
I had an experience recently where a friendly art
teacher came and taught painting to a group of women. It
was a simple painting with flowers and leaves. She
qualified it as: “it looks good from far away.” This was
true. It was what we should expect from ours too, she
explained. This has been pretty much haunting my mind
ever since. It wasn’t exactly supposed to be
impressionistic art, either. Just a little more guidance
would have made it so much better, like teaching how to
stroke with the brush as she was doing, instead of “dab
the paint,” as she described it. Or how to sketch on a
pattern and double load the brush. It could have just as
easily have been one of the “sip and paint” classes that
have been popular around town. I have heard similar
stories from participants there. Let me just say it was not
a pleasant experience for most of the women there.
Setting creative people up to fail is not my idea of fun.
This whole experience gave me pause. And made me
grateful for what we have at SSTDP!
There’s a decaying art world out there, and please,
let’s be part of the solution. We need you, we want you to
teach! If you’ve been considering doing so for 2020,
please don’t hesitate to share your talents with us. There
is still time to submit to me, by October 31, or bring it to
our class choosing meeting November 1, 11:00 a.m.
Sheila Hughes’ home. Lunch will be served. Please come!

Linda Sharp: Christmas Joy
Linda is providing the wood
for us at the cost of $5 each. If
you didn’t get yours, I still have
some available for purchase. If
you would like to sign up, there
is still time left. Please feel free
to contact me. You do not need
to trace the word “Joy,” as first
the sheet music Linda is
providing will need to be applied
in class. Remember Linda is
providing the paint; just bring
your usual painting supplies.
Patty Clark: Snowy Friends
This is an original design by
Patty planned for our January
Paint-in. It looks like a fun one.
Patty has wood kits already
made up and are available for
$15. She reminds us to please
sign up at our next chapter
meeting this coming month, as
December will be our Christmas
party at Los Prados clubhouse
and no wood kits will be
available there.
Thank you all and be excited! Great things are
coming to Chapter in 2020!!

Hello, Members,
I want to give Pat Serrano a big thank you for helping
me with the Caring Place on Oct. 14. We only had a few
ladies to teach, but we had a fun time.
Pat Gettemeyer has volunteered to help out Nov. 12,
which is the second Tuesday. Monday is a holiday and the
Caring Place will be closed.
I have canceled the Caring Place in December
because of the holidays. I told them we will let them know
for January.
Thank you to everyone for volunteering at the Caring
Place this year. It really is appreciated by them.
Hope we will be able to continue to volunteer there
for as long as we can. Hope everyone has a great fall and
happy Halloween!
See you all soon.

We had a productive work meeting in
September. Be assured that there is something
special in store for you this year! The Christmas
party is a great opportunity for you to introduce a
friend to decorative painting and to our local
chapter of the national society. So, if you'd like to
bring a guest, please do. (Guests are at the $35
regular party rate.)
Carole Liccardo had to pass the torch as the
person collecting the party money since she and
her husband are moving to Oceanside, CA to be
closer to family. We will miss you, Carole! Thank
you for volunteering so quickly to serve on this
committee and contributing to it wholeheartedly.
We hope you can make it to the party! Nikki
Anderson has kindly agreed to take over Carole's
duties and receive your money. Please give Nikki
your $10 ASAP to ensure you have a spot at the
party, complete with party favors.
FIRST, please paint a gift for another partygoer.
Your gift should be no larger than 12”x12” for ease of
transportation. Please bring it wrapped for gifting. It does
not need to be holiday-themed nor an ornament, though
that is fine if you so choose. The gift exchange will be
anonymous as in past years (don’t put your name on the
outside of the gift, but be sure to sign your work).
SECOND, we invite you to participate in a bit of
friendly painting competition. As part of our party theme,
you’re invited to paint an ornament spotlighting Mrs.
Claus. You can paint this ornament on anything you like,
i.e. a CD, jar lid, wood, tin, paper, blown egg, etc. Every
person who brings a painted Mrs. Claus ornament will
receive a prize. We will vote for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place
winners who will each win another prize, along with the
envy of all their peers.
SAVE THE DATE: Sa tu rda y , December
14, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Luncheon “Remember the
Gifts” at Los Prados Country Club, 5150 Los Prados Circle,
Las Vegas, NV 89130.
RESERVE YOUR SEAT: $10 for chapter members
($35 for nonmembers). We hope every chapter member
will join us for this special party! Please pay the fee at
your earliest convenience to Nikki Anderson. (Those
paying after November 1st will be included but may not
receive favors due to limited quantities.)
Best wishes for happy painting,
Nanette Hilton
