READY FOR A NEW ROUND OF SILA ABU DHABI hussein karzoumi is taking over the leadership of sila abu dhabi 2013. After a successful first year for Sila Abu Dhabi, the time has come to set up the new organizing team for the 2013 conference. Hussein Karzoumi, a team member of last year’s team has been selected to continue the leadership of this exciting and fast-growing organization while former Sila Abu Dhabi Director, Alf Lim, will move to Shanghai to explore new opportunities for Sila Connection. “I'm very excited about my opportunity to take the lead for Sila Abu Dhabi 2013. My goal is to build on the success of our first Sila conference last year and develop Sila into a well-known and respected event that students, academia, and industry professionals alike can look forward to every year. Now that Sila has successfully completed one conference in Abu Dhabi, there are expectation and hopes for the future that I hope can be exceeded as we try to maximize Sila's impact and potential going forward. As Sila continues to grow, it is important that we lay the proper foundations today and provide a strong guiding hand while the organization is still in its infancy. This will allow for the longevity of Sila for many years to come, which will be positive for our member schools, Abu Dhabi, the UAE, and hopefully the region as a whole. Sila appeals to me because it allows for result-oriented collaboration between university students, which, with professional guidance, enables the productive sharing of ideas, and leads to pragmatic, scalable solutions for global issues. Every great idea must have a platform from which it can be developed, and Sila is in a great position to act as this launching platform and is able to provide support and growth. These ideas can then extend beyond Sila and be implemented in our communities to bring about change and improvement. I am confident Sila Abu Dhabi 2013 will be an event to keep an eye out for because of the strong base we are building upon and the dedicated team we are doing it with.” NEWS Name: Hussein Karzoumi Age: 18 Nationality: Swedish School: NYU Abu Dhabi Major: Economics APRIL | 2013 SILA ABU DHABI “SILA ABU DHABI 2013 WILL BE AN EVENT TO KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR“

GREEN WUDHUthe winning project of sila abu dhabi 2012 moves forwardAfter an exciting aftermath of Sila Abu Dhabi, the winning student initiative Green Wudhu have been working hard to get their project started, now the biggest challenge so far has been overcome!

When Hamad Al Hammadi sent his team the good news of approval to start on a pilot project from The General Authority of Islamic Affairs & Endowments (AWQAF) on April 1st it could have been an April’s fool, but it was not!

This approval was the biggest challenge in getting the project started, and now the team and their supervisor, Rym Baouendi, can get started on the nitty gritty work to implement their project and make a real impact in Abu Dhabi!

The project has also had their own logo designed by Marek Mihok, one of the creators of Sila Connection’s logo. We congratulate Green Wudhu on these good news and are eager to follow them as they progress on this exciting endeavor!

If you are still working on your Sila project, (which we strongly encourage!) please email us any updates on your progression! We would love to hear and share the great work you are doing!

HAVE YOUR GROUP PROGRESSED?
