ONE OR TWO DAY OPTIONS:Sibshop Facilitator Training (TWO DAY)The primary goal is to train new

    Sibshop facilitators and administrators;

adult sibs, service providers, parents, and others who want to learn how torun a local Sibshop.

During the two days of the Sibshoptraining, facilitators in training will

learn about sibs; life-long concerns, find out how to organize a local

Sibshop, and experience what aSibshop is all about as they join Don

and local brothers and sisters for afour-hour Demonstration Sibshop.

Upon completion of the two-daytraining, they are considered first

    generation Sibshop facilitators, and

upon registration may start their ownlocal Sibshops.

Sibshop facilitator trainees mustattend both days of the workshop.

The secondary goal is to educateparents, service providers, and others

about sibs ever-changing issuesacross the life-span. This is for an

audience interested in sibling issues, but not necessarily interested in how

    to run a Sibshop.

This audience only attends the firstday of the two-day training.

You Will Learn:What to do about the concerns often

experienced by brothers and sisters ofchildren with disabilities: peer issues,

resentment, loss, and concerns aboutthe future (just to name a few!)

How to increase the unique opportunitiesoften experienced by siblings, including compassion, advocacy, insight, and tolerance

Strategies to decrease siblings' concernsand increase their opportunities

How to help your agency or organizationprovide "sibling-friendly" services

How to plan and run Sibshops, theaward-winning, kid-friendly mix ofpeer support and recreation

"I really felt connected...hearing other adultsibs talk about the same things I

experienced...it was better than going toDisneyland!"
