The test is approximately 3 hours long, and will be given to all 10th graders on Monday, November 20th, 2017. Please avoid checking out your students until after 4 th period so s/he may complete the exam. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s counselor. Representatives from APSU will visit us sometime in January to provide more information and to answer questions you may have. In the meantime, we would love to tell you what we know so far so that you and your children can be considering your options before we start scheduling for next year. The Parent Advisory Meeting is an opportunity for parents to ask questions and to have conversations with school administrators. We hope to see you there on November 28! News from the Agriculture Classes

This Fall students from Sycamore also attended the State Fair for the gubernatorial Ham Breakfast. Students heard from candidates for the race for governor on how they plan to impact CTE and agricultural programs if elected. Local school board member Jennifer Hamblin was also in attendance at this annual Ham Breakfast.

Students pictured here are L to R, Jackson Morton, Kenzie Carter, Chandler Nalls, board member, Jennifer Hamblin, Savannah Hale, Dalton Wolf, and advisor Toni Hawley.

While at the State Fair in Nashville, they also found, the infamous pumpkin from local farmer, Freddie Burcham.

National FFA Convention

11 students from Sycamore High School attended the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, IN Oct 25-27. They participated in leadership workshops, attended the career fair, and attended leadership sessions. This was the largest convention of the organization to date with over 67,000 students and guests in attendance.

SHS Agriculture students get a true “Farm to Table” Experience Thanks to Barry & Kent Voohries help and donation of a

hog, the SHS Agriculture Large Animal Science classes

processed a whole hog. Local Agriculture Extension

agent Ronnie Baron and MTSU professor, Nick Waynick

helped students also in making connections to future

agriculture science opportunities. This farm to table

experience was really educational and students gained

a better understanding of all uses and benefits of pork

products. Students learned the best way to dress the

hog and how to protect specific cuts. Students then

hosted a PIG ROAST that was well attended and the Hog

was unbelievably delicious, served with taters, sides and

cobbler. Mr. Voorhies agreed to donate another hog

for the following year, the event was so well received

and students had a great time being able to learn new

opportunities about their food and the processes

involved in putting it on our daily tables. In opening

ceremonies, students took a moment of silence to

honor the passing of longtime CTE/Vocational Director,

Mike Lockert. We are very grateful to the communities

support of our local Agriculture program. Pictured in the

next column is one of Mrs. Hawley’s Large Animal

Science Classes with the Voohries.

Bullying Procedures If your child feels bullied here at school, there are three Ways to Report Bullying at SHS. Your child can:

1. Ask any staff member for a yellow bullying form to report the bullying at any time.

2. Text your name and information to 615-398-0192. 3. Complete your own statement on the yellow bullying

form. You can get one from the counseling center. Turn it in to any teacher, your counselor, or to Mrs. Carter

Attendance Procedures As part of our protection protocol for students, we require a written note and phone call verification before we allow students to check out and leave the campus. Students may turn in a hand

written note to front office personnel in the morning when they arrive at school. Terri Jennette is our attendance clerk, and she will most likely be the one who will be calling you to verify. We realize that sometimes the verification phone call is inconvenient, but we hope you realize we are following such protocols to protect you and your children. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Driver’s License Letter If you need to request a Driver’s License Letter in order for your student to take the permit test, please e-mail Ms. Jennette at [email protected], or call the school at 615-746-5013 and ask for Ms. Jennette. In order to

obtain a qualifying letter, students must have all passing grades and can’t have more than 5 unexcused absences. Please allow 24 hours for processing and updated grades to be posted. The letter is good for 30 days.
