Issue No. 31: 23rd October 2019
FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
It’s SHOW TIME! The Show Committee and School Association have been busy over the past months organising, ordering, buying and sourcing all sorts of activities for this year’s show. It is exciting to announce that once again children’s rides will be free thanks in part to the sponsorship of Otta Excavations (Viney Family business) and Huon Aquaculture. We need you to pass the word onto families and friends so that we continue to grow the success of this amazing event!
Over the next week our students will be participating in various excursions: Gr 5/6 Transition Day, T20 Blast Cricket, and Community Sports Day as well as the Grade 3/4 Camp! Please check the newsletter for important information on these events. Students in Grade 3/4 will receive camp letters today.
Parents of students catching the bus, please be aware that the school bus service may be running late over the next months due to the roadworks. A reminder that next Friday, November 1st is a Student Free Day where the teaching staff will be working to moderate learning tasks and begin planning for 2020. Monday November 4th is a public holiday (Recreation Day)

WOOLWORTHS EARN & LEARN
Our equipment from the Woolworths Earn & Learn
program arrived this week! Many thanks to the families
and community members who helped to donate and
collate the stickers. The 33,000 stickers that were collected
for our school equated to us receiving a giant Connect
Four game, an easel for the Kinder’s, Lego, Games, blocks
and more! Thank you also to Woolworths for their
continued support of our school.
GR 5/6 TRANSITION
Students will be leaving school at 9.30am and returning by
12.30pm. School uniform is to be worn. School bags
containing a drink and snack may be taken to the High
School. SHS is a nut free school so snacks MUST NOT
contain nuts.
T20 CRICKET
This program is conducted by Cricket Tasmania and will be
held at the Scottsdale Recreation Ground between 10.30
and 2.00pm. All students in Grades 2-6 will be attending.
Students are required to wear the school PE uniform and
hat and bring enough food and drink for the day.
COMMUNITY SPORTS DAY
The majority of the activities will be held at the Scottsdale
Recreation Ground or at other venues around Scottsdale.
Students will walk/bus to the Scottsdale Recreation
Ground with their class group to arrive by 10.00 a.m. and
will return by the end of the school day. Students attending
Golf, Day Walk, Newcombe Ball and Basketball will travel
by bus to Bridport.
Students will need to ensure that they bring along a
packed lunch and recess and an adequate drink for the
day. Students should be prepared for cold or inclement
weather with a jacket. Students must wear a school shirt
or jumper and will require a hat (not a cap). If the day is
wet, the event will be cancelled as it is impossible to
postpone due to the number of development officers
assisting on the day.
Please ensure your child has the appropriate clothing and footwear for their chosen activities. Students participating in hockey and AFL must have a mouth guard. Students participating in the day walk must have a coat and comfortable walking shoes. Students attending fishing must bring their own rod, tackle, bait for fresh water, and a collapsible camp chair (if preferred), however no knives are allowed as teachers will have them to use to assist with cutting of lines etc. Students attending golf have the option of bringing their own golf clubs on the day.

allows the cost to be kept at a minimum so the only outlay
