attic insulation

Purpose of insulationInsulation is not confined to single purpose called energy saver, there are some other purposes like

1. pest control

2.noice control

3.radient control

4. temperature control

These are some basic advantages of insulation, the evolution of insulation since early BC shows, how welcomed by human kind.

Despite the positive fact, there are some pitfalls which are the deciding factor of the type of insulation.

Such drawbacks are discussed in the further slides

Types of insulationThere are three major type of insulations used since early days

1. fiber glass insulation

2. cellulose insulation

3. foam insulation

Common pitfalls, insulations hold

Affordability is more

Periodical maintenance

Health issues

Installation cost is more

Cellulose insulation The material used in cellulose insulation is

made of recycled paper, so it is eco-friendly

The rigidity of cellulose insulation, made it suitable for all the parts of house, including flooring, roofing, side walls, etc…

Pitfalls of cellulose insulation

Since the molecules materials are loosely arranged, they are bad resistant of moisture and water

The recycled paper holds very light weight. So they absorb the moisture at faster rate.

Page 9: Shortcomings of different types of attic insulation

Cost wise it is average but comparatively, it is higher than fiber glass insulation.

This parameter made people hesitate to opt for cellulose insulation

It also causes serious health trouble when less immune people get exposed.

Page 10: Shortcomings of different types of attic insulation

The materials used in cellulose should be tight to restrict house from very gold or hot climate.

But when installed beyond certain limit, it causes poor air circulation within the house

Ventilation-less house is major threat to our lives.

Fiber glass insulation This type of insulation came after the

asbestos insulation, which is first insulation introduced by Greek people.

It doesn’t require complex raw materials for the manufacturing process. it can be made with simple and instant materials like plastics, glass materials, atc…

Pitfalls of fiberglass insulation This type of insulation holds the major

disadvantage called size. It is available in limited size, so it is unfit

for some part of the house. Since, this is old method, it is not suited

for the upgraded present architecture

Page 13: Shortcomings of different types of attic insulation

As the atoms in the fiberglass are loose, the moisture content can easily enter space between roof and the insulation which in turn makes the material weak within short duration.

Dumping of more stuffs in one place also leads to major problem.

Page 14: Shortcomings of different types of attic insulation

Moderate amount of insulation should be used.

More insulation will not provide way for the rodents and noise from entering but the lacks in ventilation, which some time causes serious threat

Too low insulation wont stay for longer duration.

Spray foam insulationSpray foam insulation is in the

blooming stage, as it overcomes some of the disadvantages of the above two insulation process.

It is the best air sealer, as the foam used here seals each and every corner.

Pitfalls of foam insulation

The main disadvantage is usage of light weight materials

When installing, the foam flies and get catch up with the metal body around, which then causes additional cleaning work

Page 17: Shortcomings of different types of attic insulation

Cost wise it is more expensive than other two types.

As the spray foam insulation is the advanced method and the materials used here are expensive, the whole process becomes more expensive than any other types.

Page 18: Shortcomings of different types of attic insulation

The look of the house get spoilt with spray foam technique. So people have to choose some alternative ailment in hiding such look.

That makes the process even more expensive.

Aesofutah is the insulation contractor in Utah.

They have efficient energy inspectors to monitor the R-value and implement design procedure based on calculated value.
