Teacher’s Goals Teacher’s Goals (Purposeful Activity)(Purposeful Activity) 1) To empower students by having them make
decisions about the play. 2) To give students ownership of the play, so that
they will have greater investment of self in all aspects of the production.
3) To foster the development of self as actor, writer, illustrator, singer and dancer.
4) To enhance patience: Students wait their turn on stage and they have to sit very still on and off stage when others are acting.
5) To nurture greater responsibility: Children are responsible for memorizing their own speaking and singing parts, for appearing on stage on cue, for remembering their own props, and for signaling to others on stage, when speaking parts are forgotten. (More)
Teacher’s GoalsTeacher’s Goals 6) To develop self control: Control of the body,
mastering the synchrony of actions and words, resisting the urge to wave to the audience from the stage (even if parents in the audience wave first),
sitting absolutely still on stage until their character comes to life (children practiced meditating and found that breathing calmly certainly helps),
resisting the temptation to pick fallen fragments of costume or scenery off the stage floor, and staying calm when not on stage.
