To all you wonderful people at Shinewater,

What a strange world we’re living in right now but like the seasons, it will pass, and until then, I hear great things about everything you’re doing to support each other! I so wish I could come and visit. I remember how lovely your school is in the Spring time.

Can I say a huge THANK YOU to you all – to your co heads, teachers and support staff for their commitment and their passion and to parents and carers who continue to work to keep our town and our country moving forward. And to the children, what we’re all seeing right now is perhaps one of life’s most important lessons –that when we look out for each other, we can come through anything. I’ve loved seeing rainbows in fact I’ve loved seeing everything that young people have been doing because you have an important part to play in all of this too.

Stay safe, take good care and I hope to see you very soon.

With my best,Caroline

Miss Duffin says…Try watching animals on webcams. I have been hooked on watching the lions at Port Lympne – even when they are asleep. The cameras roll even in the dark, where their eyes light up! At the Wildlife Trust, the birds are amazing to watch and get so close up to. https://www.wildlifetrusts.org/webcams

Miss Davenport & Miss Eustace…We have spent the Easter break researching, Eastbourne. Year 4, is introducing the new topic of Victorian Eastbourne and it has been great exploring how Eastbourne changed and developed during the Victorian period.

Hello Y6! We are enjoying hearing from lots of you on Google Classroom. We would love to see photographs of any of the Easter activities you completed too!Like Mrs Smith, Miss Jarman has a four-legged ‘assistant’ with her at home…although Postie is a retired greyhound and is taking his retirement very seriously, so he’s not actually doing an awful lot of assisting!

Mindfulness with Mrs Dyke…

Even if we practice mindfulness, we will still experience difficult feelings and mental chatter. However, with mindfulness, we can change our relationships with our emotions, thoughts and negative self-talk

There are maybe 5 bas

ic steps to

mental wellbeing and we will look

at them closely each week. I want

to start with ‘Mindfulness.

.

Mindfulness is simply… noticing what is happening right now.

Mindfulness is taking notice of how your body feels and what you see,

smell and taste. Maybe you even feel emotions in your body, perhaps through

tightness somewhere, or a good sensation.

.Before

we start believ

ing

mindfulness is

a cure, it’s

important to po

int out that

mindfulness is

not a magic p

otion

to solve ever

y problem.

Mindfulness is also noticing what your mind is doing.

Work together as a family on

mindfulness, Start with the

following exercise.

When we go outside we can see and feel so many wonderful things. Things like trees, and the wind, and the clouds, and the sun.In many ways we are like these beautiful parts of nature, and for this exercise we’ll be like the tree and the wind and the sun.Our body is like a tree. It grows and it is strong. Our breath is like the wind. It flows in and out.And the sun is like the part of us that is warm and kind.So let’s lower or close our eyes and sit tall like a tree. We extend our hands way out and stretch our fingers, like branches and leaves. Let’s squeeze our fingers together and then let go and feel them wiggle, like they are blowing in the wind. And now, with the wind blowing, let’s be like the wind and take a two big, slow breaths. Breathing in…and breathing out, blowing out the wind. Breathing in…and breathing out, blowing out the wind. And now the sun comes out and warms the tree and the wind. As it shines on the tree, we feel our body. Can you feel fingers and feel your toes? What else can you feel—just by noticing? And as the sun shines on the wind, we feel our body breathing. Can you feel your belly moving up and down? Can you feel the air flowing in and out of your beautiful body? And with the sun up high in the sky, brightening and warming the whole world, you too can warm the world—with your kindness!Think of someone who can use a little kindness—like your sister or brother, or a friend, or your teacher. And as you think of them, wish for them, “May you be happy,” imagining them smiling like the sun.You deserve happiness too. So now wish for yourself, “May I be happy,” and smile like the sun.And as you smile like the sun, feel your body sitting tall like a tree and feel your breath blowing like the wind. And then gently open your eyes and look around. You are amazing!

CommunityFree School Meal Vouchers-what can the vouchers be spent on? Families are free to select the most appropriate food and drink for their child. When selecting products, we encourage families to consider health and nutrition. The School Food Standards may act as a useful guide for families. The vouchers should not be redeemed for any age-restricted items, such as alcohol, cigarettes or lottery tickets. There are a number of online resources available to support families in preparing healthy and nutritious food, including on the NHS Eat Well website.

Safeguarding

Message to pupils…We understand that as you can’t go out as much that you may now be spending more time online. Most of you will be doing your schoolwork online and lots of you will be hanging out with friends and playing games online to help pass the time. Going online can be fun but there can be dangers too and these general tips will be a reminder of how to stay safe online.

Online SafetyAs pupils are working more remotely and, on the Internet, the NSPCC have released some very useful guidance and support for parents. Please do have a read of some of their key points.https://www.nspcc.org.uk/keeping-children-safe/online-safety/
