Transcript of SHEOWS - Brochure SD
(A Govt of India Undertaking)
Our first old aged is a widowed lady from Chandarnagar. Her extremity is hurtful, as she used to pay her own son to live in their home, from the money she got as widow-pension. This is her family's wretched behaviour at it's best, and her plight doesn'tend here. Her clothes were teared off, and she was robbed off her savings of Rs.40,000 by her own son, daughter-in-law and even grandson. After which she was badly beaten up and thrown away. Under the scrutiny of such a miserable situation, she went to a temple whose authorities got in touch with SHEOWS. As soon as the people at SHEOWS got to know her story, they immediately brought her at the Ashram giving her attention and emotional support. She was provided with shelter, food and clothes with complete devotion. Now a member of Guru Vridh Vishram Ashram, she is peaceful and coping up well.

Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram (Old Age Home) is managed by the SHEOWS. SHEOWS (Saint Hardyal Educational and Orphan Welfare Society) is registered under Society Registration Act 1860 and the Foreign Contributions (Regulation) Act, 1976. Since then it is working for the welfare of helpless old and other down trodden people of our society.
Right now we are taking care of 210 elderly residents in our New Delhi and Garh Ganga Ashram. After setting of the Ashram in 2003 we have provided completely free care and shelter service to over 2500 elderly individual, about 1350 residents have been cremated and more than 970 people have rehabilitated and sent to their own homes. Now, they are living with their beloved one.
As India progresses as a democracy, completing 66th year of the same this year, she is getting older. The population of those aged above 60 is gradually increasing in ratio compared to the working age groups of 15-59 (5.6% in 1961 to 13% in 2026). We as a nation have not grown quickly enough in terms of policies to cater these growing group of elderly. This is sadly reflected in the increasing numbers of elderly on the streets of India in both urban and rural areas. Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram (Old Age Home) - an initiative of SHEOWS. Since inception it is working for the welfare of helpless, abandoned and destitute old people on our streets in Delhi. With the increasing numbers knocking at the Ashram's door, there is an urgent need to complete the building of the ashram in GarhMukteswar.
We humbly request your support for completion of the construction of the Old Age Home. It may not be possible for an individual to donate the entire cost to achieve this task; however it is the drops that make the ocean.
