Federation of repositories – service enabling schools and teachers to find educational content from many different countries and providers :
● More than 50 providers open to both public and private sectors
● Over 200,000 OERs covering all educational fields (K-12)
● More than 30 languages
Scientix is financed under the European Union's Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Development, eQNet was supported by the European Commission's Lifelong Learning Programme.
eQNet - Quality Network for European Learning Resource Exchange (2009 – 2012)
http://eqnet.eun.org/
Supported by the European Commission's Lifelong Learning Programme (LLP)Consortium: EUN and nine Ministries of education in Europe
Goal:
● Enable sharing of Open Educational Resources on a large scale● Streamline their evaluation
Result: Travel Well criteriaA set of metadata, describing OERs that allow for identifying digital learning content that has a high potential to be re-used across national and linguistic boudaries.
Scientix is financed under the European Union's Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Development, eQNet was supported by the European Commission's Lifelong Learning Programme.
Travel WellTravel Well criteria – methodology:
Expert teachers assessed learning objects in LRE for their travel well potential.
Analysis of the assessments:
● What criteria teachers considered most relevant?● Were there some criteria difficult to apply or deemed less relevant?
Result :● Travel Well criteria are suitable for pratical evaluation and can
noticeably reduce the subjectivity inherent in expert evaluation.● Showcase of 3,500 Travel Well resources, another 2,000 added
since then
Scientix is financed under the European Union's Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Development, eQNet was supported by the European Commission's Lifelong Learning Programme.
Travel Well criteria
1. Translational topics2. Knowledge of specific language is not needed (language independence)3. Stored as a file type that is usable with generally available software4. Methodological support for teachers in not needed5. Intuitive and easy to use (no complex operating instructions)6. Interactivity 7. Clear licence status

Resources in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM)
Content providers: STEM education projects funded by EU programmes or by various (inter)national initiatives:● 200 STEM projects carried out int he past 10 years● Over 600 learning objects
Common core: support of inquiry based learning (IBSE) and the use of ICT in science eduation

Scientix Translation on demand
● Bottom-up approach – user driven localisation of OERs● Localisation to EU official languages
From May 2010 to November 2012:● 1,071 requests● 440 of them accepted
Criteria: more than one request for translation of a given OER

Scientix Translation on demand v. Travel Well
Travel Well: to stimulate mutual exchange of OERs between both producers and end-users● Quick and objective evaluation of large number of OERs● Easy uptake by third parties
Scientix Translation on demand: to disseminate and promote good teaching practice in STEM education (IBSE)● Bound to subject-specific repositories with clearly defined set of good teaching practice● Require active user community● Specific funding needed
From May 2010 to November 2012:● 1,071 requests● 440 of them accepted
