HSC Minimum Standard Information Evening
Strathfield Girls High School HSC Minimum Standard Information Evening for
Year 10 students and their parents was held on Tuesday, 25 February 2020. It
was a well attended and very successful meeting. 88% parent attendance
demonstrated the importance that our school community places on their
daughters’ education.
Parents and students gained better understanding of the HSC Minimum
Standard requirements and process of the tests as well as, the support the
school is offering.
Everyone was welcomed by the Year 10 Advisor, Ms Saba and then Ms Lyris
presented her Principal’s address, outlining the importance of every student
attaining the HSC Minimum Standard and the school’s commitment in
supporting our students to succeed.
Ms Eklund, Head Teacher Learning and Engagement, then presented the NESA
information on the minimum standards in numeracy, reading and writing, and
how this aligned to the Australian Core Skills Framework. She went on to
explain what the tests entailed and how they would be administered to our
students.
Thank you to Ms Eklund for her informative presentation and hard work in
organising the tests over the next few weeks.
All the best to all Year 10 students who will be attempting the tests and
striving towards attaining their HSC Certificate in 2022!

On Friday the 28 February 2020, the Prefect Body, along with the SRC held a Clean-up Strathfield Girls day on behalf of Clean up Australia this Sunday. Strathfield Girls greatly value the environment and the importance of keeping our planet clean.
To promote this important initiative, each year group was allocated a certain part of the school to clean for 20 minutes. Although this was not much time, the impacts of just spending a small amount of time cleaning were tremendous. Our school looked cleaner than it ever had before and the student body of SGHS greatly enjoyed this initiative.
This initiative was promoted through posters, roll call announcements and assembly announcements to motivate students prior to the event. Prefects and SRC were allocated areas to assist students by providing bin bags and gloves to make their experience easier. This experience allowed all SGHS students to start their journey in be-coming global citizens and was a worthwhile opportunity to jumpstart their volunteering portfolio.

What has been happening in VET………..
Work Readiness Induction
Our year 11 Hospitality and Business Services students have recently participated in the Work Ready Program
that is facilitated by the VET Coordinator and MWLP workplacement provider. This is a mandatory course that
the students must undertake prior to going out workplacement. Students will complete 2 workplacements as a
requirement of their course. Students will be exposed to a range of new skills that they will implement.
Art Espresso Coffee Shop……
Our school’s coffee shop has been running successfully this term by our Year 12 Hospitality students. The coffee
shop is open every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning for staff to purchase their morning caffeine fix. Year
12 will commence training our new upcoming baristas the Year 11 classes, who will take over this role in Term 2.
This opportunity has given our girls an insight to the world of work by providing them with better communica-
tion, organisation and teamwork skills.
