Think U know – Cyber safety police talk
On Wednesday, 2 May, our local Police Liaison Officer, Senior Constable Anne
Ferfolya from the Youth Command of the NSW Police Force came to Strathfield
Girls High to talk about cyber safety and how to be responsible online. This talk
was very engaging and helped the girls understand the dangers behind the large
- and growing - cyber universe.
The talks centred around educating our girls on the safe and responsible use of
technology, predominantly when using social media and a wide range of apps, as
well as, tips on how to protect themselves in regards to cyberbullying and
limiting students’ online footprint to protect their personal data.
Multiple examples of both responsible and irresponsible behaviour online and
how to distinguish between the two were presented. This set a good example on
how to act while on the internet or social media websites, helping girls
understand how to benefit from their time online. The information was
presented using engaging videos and provided the opportunity for students to
ask questions about cyber safety. Overall, the presentation was very successful,
enabling students to take home useful information on how to act appropriately
online.

Think U know – Cyber safety police talk
Here is the feedback from our students:
Ariana, Year 9 : “This talk taught me to be more cautious towards social networking sites and apps. By learning
this, I have now taken away great tips for when being in certain situations online. This talk overall was very
helpful and I look forward to using these tips’.
Rachel, Year 10 learnt: “Do not post photos about people without their permission. Protect your passwords in
case someone hacks into your account. Do not cyberbully to someone on the internet.”
Maryam, Year 10 : “ Today’s police talk about cyberbullying and online behaviour served to make us think about
our actions and digital footprint. The talk enlightened us about the repercussions of irresponsible use of
technology as well as informed us of safe ways to utilise social media. Overall, this talk from Senior Constable
Anne was highly beneficial and made us wake up to the dangers of misusing technology.”
Sofia, Year 7: “ The police talk was very informative… we covered topics like sexting, cyberbullying, and how
teenagers like us can be targeted and lured by total strangers. I think Senior Constable Anne provided the
information in a professional and child friendly way that held the attention of students. Even though some of the
facts were hard to hear, it was necessary to hear them.”
Kylie, Year 7 said: “ I enjoyed the police talk because it was about the safety of social media and online use. They
mentioned about talking to strangers online, sending inappropriate content, spam and obvious personal
information. I learnt that more people owned a phone than a toothbrush and that Carly Ryan was the first
person to be attacked in NSW by an online groomer.”
Anya, Year 7: “ The police talk yesterday covered issues that could involve us. Constable Anne told us that
technology is very useful and important, but can also be dangerous.“
I am so happy that the girls understood the dangers of social media and the Internet. The more
times they hear about how to keep themselves safe, the better the outcome , for not only
keeping themselves safe online, but making wise choices about posting inappropriate and
hurtful comments online.

!!! IMPORTANT NOTICES !!!
PERSONAL DETAILS
It is very important that parents/carers keep the school informed of any
changes in their personal details. All change of addresses, telephone
numbers and/or emergency contacts need to be updated immediately
there is a change.
Note that only parents or emergency contacts recorded on our data base
are allowed to collect early leavers or sick students.
When the school telephones a parent/carer to collect their sick child,
this must be done within an hour of the call. Parents are only called
after assessments and monitoring of the student’s condition.
If a parent/carer does not respond or indicates that they cannot collect
their child, an ambulance may be called to attend to the student.
Parents/carers will have to bear the cost of this ambulance visit.
HAVE YOU SUBMITTED ALL ABSENTEE NOTES??
Please remember that following your daughter's absence, you must provide the
school with a written explanation of the absence within 2 days. Roll Call teachers and
Year Advisers remind students to bring in these written notes, however, it is your re-
sponsibility to ensure that you explain every absence (including lateness) of your
daughter.
Please ensure that all outstanding notes are attended to immediately.
