Library Expands Hours!
this program, which ran from
June 16th-August 1st, the
library served 431 lunches to
the children of Sugar Grove.
We are proud to have aided
in feeding children in the
community and look forward
to serving again next summer!
This summer beginning on
June 16th, the Sugar Grove
Free Library served free
lunches to the children of
Sugar Grove. The library
could not have accomplished
this without the help of
AmVets Post #50 Ladies
Auxiliary Members and the
Post for the preparation and
use of the facilities.
The program was funded by
the library with
reimbursement for some costs
by the Pennsylvania Dept of
Education. In the first year of

Summer Reading
which ranged from
hunting and gardening
to ponies and kitties.
We also had pick-a-
duck for prizes and
guessing of the gummy
worms. Everyone re-
ceived a prize and their
own “Geek the Library”
swag bag. So, now
come in and tell us,
“What do you geek?”
and see if we can help
you learn more!
The Warren County Li-
braries sponsored Tues-
day, August 5th at the
Warren County Fair.
In conjunction with the
Youngsville Library,
Sugar Grove asked fair
-goers, “What do you
geek?” The Geek the
Library campaign has
been launched nation-
wide to have those with
passions share them
with others and where
better to learn more
about what you’re pas-
sionate about then at
your local library!
People wrote down
what they “geeked”
and had their pictures
taken with the “What
do you geek?” shirt,
while receiving awe-
some goodie bags. Sev-
eral people stopped to
talk and tell us about
what they “geeked”,
This year’s summer reading theme was “Fizz! Boom! Read!” Children
were able to witness science experiments in the library and provided
with some to do at home. A crystal was grown from household items,
such as Borax and then children were given the recipe to make rock
candy at home (along with some rock candy in case it didn’t turn out
at home). Slime and viscosity, oil and water, and anything that was
messy made the program at SGFL’s summer reading 2014. Next
year’s theme is “Every Hero Has A Story” for children, “Unmask!” for
teens, and adults can “Escape the Ordinary!”. We look forward to
seeing you and your child!

What do you geek? This little girl
geeked ponies! She was an expert on all
things ponies!
Story time at Warren County Fair!
Friday, August 8th at the Warren
County Fair saw many junior
birds, “flapping their wings!”.
Each child was given a pair of
wings, which we used during
reading, “Flap your Wings”, “For
the Birds: The Life of Roger Tory
Peterson”, “King of the Birds”,
and “All About Pets!” Children
were all telling about their
experiences with birds and
other pets they have. Many
had been bird watching and
could pick out common birds
in the area. All children left
with awesome wings and
some toy bugs since that’s
what most birds eat!
Children using plaster of Paris to make coasters/paper
weights. Had to move fast before it set up!

Wandering Wednesdays: Journey into the Past
Do you remember any of these people? Or do you know that place? The library needs help
identifying local pictures, especially people, before the greatest generation is gone. Wednesday
nights, beginning in October, the library will be bringing out parts of its historical collection for
residents to help us identify. Come reminisce, identify, and preserve our local history. Some
refreshments will be provided (just not near the collection). Look for more information on the
library’s website (sgfreelibrary.org) closer to October.
The Games! And a Day of Community Fun!
On September 6th, the library will be hosting morning of competition with “The
Games” and a day of community fun! Starting in the morning, “The Games” will
assess your physical skills by having you tackle a mechanical bull, climb the rock
wall, race through an obstacle course, and test your aim at bungee basketball!
At midday, the games will wrap up and the helicopter will be landing as part of
the Sugar Grove VFD’s safety fair! There will be fire extinguisher demonstrations,
the ambulance out, and a seatbelt check to make sure your safety seats are se-
cured properly. The Ladies Auxiliary at the Fire Dept. will also be serving food
throughout the day. Other non-profit community-oriented organizations will also
be on hand to answer any questions about services they provide.
Don’t want to or not old enough to compete in “The Games”? That’s ok! For $5
you can use the inflatables all day! (Except if it is being used in the morning) Mu-
sic, games for kids, face painting, craft vendors! Come enjoy the wonderful com-
munity of Sugar Grove! The Sweetest Town on the Map!
Community togetherness and fun.

Batman Day!
That’s right! Batman was in
Sugar Grove on July 26th!
Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah,
nah, nah, Batman! Batman
reached a milestone and
decided to celebrate the
75th anniversary of the re-
lease of the 1st Batman com-
ic in Sugar Grove! Children
were able to get their pic-
tures taken with Batman and given
the opportunity to win a cool crate
filled with Batman stuff. DC
Comics donated all the swag bags
to give to children. This was a fun
way to give back to our patrons,
while running the normal library
book sale.
