Transcript of July-Sept Newsletter
JULY, AUGUST, SEPTEMBER 2010
In the photo above, you can see the staff that I
have been privileged to lead and work with
this summer for Mission Adventures. During
the five weeks of the program we have hosted
close to 50 participants for training and
outreach.
Mission Adventures is a full service short-term
missions program catering to youth groups.
We provide three days of training and five days
of outreach for the teams that come each
week. This year we have had teams from
Arizona, Oregon, New York and California.
Most of the teams have done inner-city
outreaches here in Los Angeles, but we even
had one team that went on a two week
outreach to Egypt!
It has been exciting to watch the impact that
God has made on the lives of so many youth
this summer. One of the most important
things that many youth have learned is that
they can live a lifestyle of missions wherever
they are and that God wants to use them
anywhere that they go. Mission Adventures is a
gateway into missions for many youth!
Summertime!
I AM A MISSIONARY WITH YWAM LOS ANGELES, WORKING SPECIFICALLY WITH URBAN MINISTRIES THERE. THIS WORK INVOLVES REACHING OUT TO AT RISK AND INCARCERATED YOUTH, GANG MEMBERS AND HOSTING TEAMS THAT COME TO LOS ANGELES TO DO MINISTRY. I ALSO HAVE A PASSION TO TEACH THE WORD OF GOD IN A CLASSROOM SETTING AND HAVE TRAVELED TO MANY PLACES TO SPEAK IN YWAM TRAINING SCHOOLS, TEACHING THE STUDENTS HOW TO APPLY THE BIBLE TO THEIR LIVES TODAY.

BARRY’S BULLETIN
2010: A Year of Changes.
As I look back on what has happened in this calender
year, it is clear that God has already taken me
through many changes and entrusted me with new roles and leadership. Looking into the fall, I can see
that there are more changes to come.
In the 12 years that I have been with YWAM-LA, we have been under the leadership of one base director,
Dave Gustaveson. In September, he will be stepping
out of that role and into a new one outside of our base. Our new base director will be Werner Pfau.
With this leadership change will also come some
structural changes at our base. In 2009, I was asked
to be on the leadership team that guides our base. This team will be downsized in September, and I will
no longer serve in that capacity. I am excited about
this change because it will free up more of my time to pursue other new things that God has for me this
fall.
AND WE KNOW THAT IN ALL THINGS GOD WORKS FOR THE GOOD OF THOSE WHO LOVE HIM, WHO HAVE BEEN CALLED ACCORDING TO HIS PURPOSE. ROMANS 8:28 (TNIV)
Into the great wide openComing up this fall, I have the amazing opportunity to attend some conferences for personal and ministry
enrichment. The first will be a celebration of YWAM’s
50th anniversary in Tijuana, Mexico. During this time,
we will receive teaching from YWAM’s founders and major leaders. Right after that, I will be flying to
Chicago, along with my urban ministry co-workers to
attend the Christian Community Development Association (CCDA) conference. CCDA is
committed to restoring under-resourced
communities in the US and abroad. We will be taught by Cornel West and John Perkins, among others, who
are providing vision and leadership to this
movement. I will incur fees and travel costs for both
of these conferences, please pray and consider if you can help with these expenses.
As the summer ends, I am also praying about my
future. When I accepted the role of MA Director, I knew that God was only asking me to do it for a
short season, believing that He has called me long-
term to work with urban ministries. We are anticipating God opening many new doors for us as a
ministry in the near future. As I seek to focus my
mind and energy on that, I am looking to raise up
new leaders to take over Mission Adventures long-term. I believe that God has the right person(s) to
take the program into the future. God has been so
faithful to me and I know that He will continue to be. Please pray that He will provide dedicated people
who will have new vision for the Mission Adventures
program and its future.
Thank you for all your prayers and support.
