National Day of Prayer Thursday May 3rd
2018
Church family I want to encourage you to join us in our Prayer Room just outside the Wesleyan
classroom anytime during the day on May 3rd. Our prayer room is accessible by a combination
lock anytime day or night, but we will have the room open and unlocked all day for anyone who
would like to come and pray on this national day of prayer. Jesus said in Matthew 21:13 (NLT)
He said to them, “The Scriptures declare, 'My Temple will be called a house of prayer…” and
we definitely want our church to be a house of prayer as well. If you can come for 15 minutes or
for an hour or more, please join us to pray for our church, our denomination, our families, our
community, our leaders, our nation, and anything else that you could imagine that needs petition.
Jesus loves you and wants you to take time daily to communicate with Him and He wants to
grant you the desires of your heart. Why not schedule time to do this with us Thursday May 3rd
from 6am until midnight. Thank you for being the best church in Sevierville and we look
forward to seeing you each Sunday and during the day of prayer. May God bless you greatly!
Pastor David Zavona (PRAYER SERVICE AT THE COURTHOUSE LAWN AT 6:00 P.M.)

From The Pastor’s Desk Single Board Model
Last year we held a meeting and discussed the redundancy of the
current organizational structure of the church. Since some United
Methodist Churches are going to what is a called a “Single Council
Model or One Board Model,” we thought it might be worth our time
to look into it. The Administrative Council, Trustees, Finance
Committee and Staff Parish Committee were invited to hear from
three persons from First Broad Street UMC in Kingsport about their
experience with this new model. The consensus at that meeting was
for us to look into it and see what that model would look like for
us. We will be sharing more information and will be having some
meetings to explain how this model works and see if our church is
interested in changing the way we currently operate. If we decide to
go to a The Single Council Model it will be comprised of twelve
members elected at the annual Charge/Church Conference. The
Council will be comprised of a Chairperson, Lay Leader, Treasurer,
a Lay Delegate to Annual Conference, Personnel, Trustee, Church
Ministry Council and Finance. The twelve members will be elected
by the Charge/Church Conference and will be limited to three
consecutive years. The committee will be a diverse group in age and
gender. The Pastors will be ex-officio members of the
committee. Members may represent more than one area to fulfill the
Book of Disciplines requirements. The work of the Trustees,
Finance and Personnel will be the responsibility of the
Council. There will be three sub-groups of the Council to meet the
needs of the Trustees, Finance and Personnel. These groups will
meet when needed and will report to the Council. Trustees- Three
persons from the committee will care for the church’s property,
formerly Trustees. While the Council sets the overall vision for the
task at hand, the sub-committee will carry out the Council’s plans.
Finance- Three persons from the committee will represent the
interests of Finance and Stewardship, formerly the Finance
Committee. Personnel- Three persons from the committee will
represent human resource issues, formerly SPRC. The overall vision
is set by the Council and the sub-committee will carry out the
Council’s plans. This model fits the Book of Discipline standards in
paragraphs ¶243, ¶244.2, ¶247.2, and ¶252.If you have any question
please feel free to call pastor Jeff.
