    Chichen Itza (before 800 A.D.), Mexico

    Chichen Itza is the most famous Mayan temple city, served as thepolitical and economic center of the Mayan civilization. Chichen Itza

    is a Spanish word which means at the mouth of the well of the Itza

    is a large pre-Columbian archaeological site.

    Built by the Maya civilization located in the Yucatn Peninsula,present-day Mexico.

    Built before 800 A.D. Its four sides contain 365 steps (depicting the

    solar year).

    The site is 70 miles (113 km) east of Merida, the Capital of the State

    of Yucatan, Mexico.

    Christ the Redeemer (70 - 82 A.D.) Rome, Italy

    Christ the Redeemer is a statue of Jesus Christ in Rio deJaneiro, Brazil. The statue is considered the second largest ArtDeco statue in the world with a height of 39.6 meters (130 ft)including its 9.5 meter (31 feet) pedestal, and 30 meters (98 ft)wide.It weighs 635 tones (700 short tons), and is located at the

    peak of the 700-metre (2,300 ft) Corcovado mountain. It takes220 steps to reach the foot of the statue.

    Designed by Brazilian, Heitor da Silva Costa and created bythe French sculptor Paul LandowskiIt.

    It is made of reinforced concrete and soapstone, and wasconstructed between 1922 and 1931 and cost the equivalentof US$250,000 (approximately US$3.5 million in 2010). Themonument was opened on October 12, 1931.

    The Great Wall of China is a series of fortifications made of stone, brick,

    tamped earth, wood, and other materials, generally built along an east-to-west line across the historical northern borders of China in part to protect theChinese Empire.

    Built by Qin Shi Huangdi, the first emperor of China during the Qin (Ch'in)Dynasty (221 B.C - 206 B.C.). In Chinese the wall is called "Wan-Li Qang-

    Qeng" which means 10,000-Li Long Wall (10,000 Li = about 5,000 km).

    Length: 8,851.8 km (5,500 miles)Construction Period: About 2,000 years from the Warring States Period (476BC - 221 BC) to Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).

    It is made with local materials mostly soil and stones. Its total length willexceed 50,000 kilometers.

    It is the largest man-made monument ever to have been built and it isdisputed that it is the only one visible from space.

    It is in South America, Peru in the middle of nowhere. A town was built on top of the mountain in 1440. The people built it there for god agricultural reasons and the Incas

    needed the area.

    Interesting Facts

    It is 7,710 feet above sea level deep in the Amazon Jungle abovethe Urubamba River.

    750 people lived in the ancient city.

    It said that the silhouette of the mountain range behind MachuPicchu represents the face of the Inca looking upward towards thesky, with the largest, Huayna Picchu representing his nose.

    o Petra is a site in the Arabah, Jordan that was discovered by aSwiss explorer called Johann Ludwig Burckhardt in 1812 andis considered to be, yet another splendid beauty in the historyof mankind. Arabah is a section of the Great Rift Valley and itis located between the Dead Sea (north) and the Gulf ofAqaba (south) forming part of the border between Jordan

    (east) and Israel (west).o It is a beauty hidden behind layers of mountain.

    Facts:

    Petra has its origin back in 106 AD.

    It is one of the oldest architecture present today. It is the place where the King Artes was called for the arrest.

    It was discovered by a Swiss explorer. His name was JohannLudwig Burckhardt.

    The Roman Colosseum (70 - 82 A.D.) Rome, Italy

    The Colosseum, (the Flavian Amphitheatre) is one of Rome's mostfamous buildings and enduring monuments to the culture of theancient Romans.

    The Colosseum had a total spectator capacity of 45,000-55,000.The Amphitheater is built of travertine outside, and of tufa and brick

    in the interior. The main pedestals were built of marble blocksweighing 5 metric tons (11,000 pounds.)

    There were no less than 76 numbered entrances and 4 additionalentrances reserved for the Emperor, other VIP's and the gladiators.

    The Colosseum was designed for easy crowd dispersal; the entireaudience could exit the building in five minutes.

    Interior was divided into three parts: the arena, the podium, and thecavea.

    The Taj Mahal (1631 A.D.) Agra, India

    o Taj is a white Marble mausoleum located in Agra, The Taj was built

    in 22 years with the orders of Shah Jahan and it was dedicated toMumtaz Mahal (Arjuman Bano Begum), the wife of Shah.

    o 20.000 workers labored and 32 crore rupees were spent during theconstruction of the monument and it was built according to Islamicarchitecture.

    o It was built between 1631 and 1648.o It was completed in 1648 C.E. at a cost of 32 Million Rupees.

    o The construction documents show that its master architect wasUstad Isa, Ustad Ahmad Lahauri.

    Interesting Facts

    The central dome is 187 feet high in the middle. The material was brought in all over central Asia with the help of

    1000 elephants.

    They used 28 different types of stones.
