“…Thou hast played the harlot with many lovers; yet return again to Me, saith Yahweh… Thou
hast polluted the land with thy whoredoms and with thy wickedness. Therefore the showers have
been withholden, and there hath been no latter rain...”
Jeremiah 3:1-3
“Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to
seek Yahweh, till He come and rain righteousness upon you.”

Session 1: Slaying the Giant of Gossip
Bible Reading:
1 Samuel 17:13-51 John 13:35
Key Word Study: “Goliath”
Name of the Giant
Meaning of the Name
Goliath
Key Points for Conquering Giants:
Yahweh gives special grace to us to conquer these giants – EARLY (the
earlier the better!)
1 John 2:13 “I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known Him that is from the
beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one...”
Ecclesiastes 12:1 “Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil
days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in
them.”
Going Deeper: “GOLIATH” – Conquering Gossip & Verbal Abuse
To conquer the tongue is to “bridle the whole body” – James 3:2
We will give an account to God for our words – Matthew 12:37
When wrongly used, the tongue is:

Saul and the army of Israel viewed the
situation with Goliath in a human,

them to be unsuccessful in vanquishing
the terrible giant.
o “Surely to defy ________________

to be victorious over the giant.
o “…And the Philistine cursed David

What David Knew About Goliath:
Goliath wasn’t reviling _________________ and __________________________.
Goliath was really reviling ____________________________________.
What We Must Know to Gain Victory Over Attacks of Gossip Against Us:
It’s only as we see that those who rise up and revile Christians, reviling God’s
Way, are not against _______________________, they are against
___________________________. Then we can have the courage and the power
of the Holy Spirit to defeat them.
“And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch
as ye have done it unto one of the least of these My brethren, ye have done it
unto Me,” Matthew 25:40.

Biblical Guidelines for Victory: “GOLIATH” – Conquering Gossip & Verbal Abuse
Yahshua’s Example:
“For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure
grief, suffering wrongfully. For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted
for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? But if, when ye do well, and
suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God. For even
hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us
an Example, that ye should follow His Steps: Who did no sin, neither
was guile found in His Mouth: Who, when He was reviled, reviled not
again; when He suffered, He threatened not; but committed Himself
to Him that judgeth righteously,” 1 Peter 2:19-23.

Prayer Time:
Divide into Groups of 2-3 for Prayer: Repentance for Idolatry
The single biggest inhibitor in receiving the Latter Rain is personal idolatry. Claim Psalm 139:23-
24 for each other in your prayer group. Then, privately, write the idols Yahweh brings to your
mind that you need to repent from on a 3x5 card. In a moment of silent prayer, confess the things
on your card. Then join with your small group praying collectively for each other –Jer. 3:1-3

Session 2: Slaying the Giant of Pride
Bible Reading:
2 Samuel 21:15-17 Proverbs 16:18-19
Key Word Study: “Ishbi-benob”
Name of the Giant
Meaning of the Name
Ishbi-benob
Key Points for Conquering Giants:
The longer we allow the Giants to reign, the more havoc they wreak.
Unconquered Giants will attack later in life. – 1 Samuel 17:40, Jude 1:22
We must face the Giants sooner or later.
Going Deeper: “ISHBI-BENOB” – Conquering Pride
This giant attacked David after years of achievement.
This giant attacked David when he was weary and in distress.
Often when we are feeling down and naturally want to bolster ourselves
up, pride attacks. We want to think of all the ____________ we have
done to “feel better” about ourselves. This is pride.
o “Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he
fall.” 1 Corinthians 10:12
o “For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is
among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to
think; but to think _____________________, according as God
hath dealt to every man the measure of faith,” Romans 12:3

Men’s Praise Exposes Pride
The praise of others reveals ___________________ or ______________
o “Every man's work shall be made _______________: for the day
shall declare it, because it shall be _________________ by
___________; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort
it is.” 1 Corinthians 3:13
o “As the fining pot for silver, and the furnace for gold; so is a man
to his ______________________.” Proverbs 27:21
How Men’s Praise Exposes Pride
Acts 12:21-23 “And upon a set day
Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat
upon his throne, and made an
oration unto them. And the people
gave a shout, saying, It is the voice
of a god, and not of a man. And
immediately the angel of Yahweh
smote him, because he gave not
God the glory: and he was eaten of
worms, and gave up the ghost.”
Prideful reaction to men’s praise:

Humble reaction to men’s praise: _______________________ the glory to

“Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you
be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God
resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. Humble yourselves
therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due
time,” 1 Peter 5:5-6

The giant Ishbi-Benob attacked David with a spear and a NEW WEAPON.
What does Yahweh do to the proud? _____________ - Dan. 4:37
Pride often comes at us in ways we do not expect. We may even be proud of
our humility!
Pride is not defeated by us alone.
o David could not conquer Ishbi-Benob on his own. He needed help to
conquer this giant.
o This is a parallel to pride. Pride produces blindness (Romans 11:25).
We often need help to conquer pride, because godly friends can point
out areas of pride that we cannot see. David had a godly friend, who
saw Ishbi-Benob closing in to kill David – James 5:16.
o The name of David’s friend, who helped him conquer Isbhi-Benob
(pride) was Abishai (2 Samuel 21:16-17) Abishai means “generous
gift” or (___________________)
HUMBLE PERSPECTIVE: this is a powerful reminder that it is only through the

Prayer Time:
Whole Group Prayer: Seeking Yahweh’s Name be Glorified in Us
TAPESTRY PRAYER – Part 1: As a group, pray through Psalm 61:1-7 or Numbers 6:24-27. Use the
expanded meaning from the key words in the verses we studied today in your prayer. Each person
pray ONE concept from Psalm 67:1-7 or Numbers 6:24-27. (Choose the one concept that was
most meaningful to you, personally.)
TAPESTRY PRAYER – Part 2: For the second time around, each person will again pray only ONE
concept. This time ask for the one thing you think is most needed in order for the Holy Spirit to
be poured out. Pray together for the Latter Rain to be able to fall in whatever FULL MEASURE
YAHWEH CHOOSES – with all of our blockages to it fully removed.

“Preparing for Pentecost”
Page 12
We have seen how unconfessed, unsurrendered areas of sin in our lives will
prevent us from receiving the Latter Rain (Jeremiah 3:3). But we also need
to have the right ________________________________ in seeking it.
Our motivation in seeking the Latter Rain must be Yahweh-centered, or
Heaven will not send us the Gifts and Power of Pentecost.
James 4:3 “Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask ______________,
that ye may consume it upon your lusts.” (See also Jeremiah 5:24-25.)
Going Deeper: The Gifts of the Spirit
The Right Motivation for Seeking the Latter Rain – Deuteronomy 11:13-14
We first seek to know and obey Yahweh’s __________________________.
We _______________________ Yahweh whole-heartedly.
We seek to _____________________ Him with all our heart and soul.
What are Spiritual Gifts and Who has Them?
Spiritual Gifts are drives (motivations of the Holy Spirit), opportunities (that
we have to minister), and results (miraculous) given by the Holy Spirit to
achieve God’s supernatural goals.
Every Christian is given Spiritual Gifts, talents & abilities (all of which are
from Yahweh)
A non-Christian can have a particular ability or skill (i.e. a talent for
teaching, organization, or leadership, etc.), but until the Holy Spirit
empowers that ability, he doesn’t have Heaven-glorifying results.
A Christian has Spiritual Gifts (sometimes called talents), which are
___________________ “natural” abilities (given by Yahweh) – See
Daniel 4:30-37.
Daniel 1:17 “As for these four children, God gave them
________________ and _________________ in all learning and
wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.”
1 Corinthians 12:7 – “But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to
every man to profit withal.”
Lighted Way Ministries Pentecost Weekend – 2017
“Preparing for Pentecost”
Page 13
James 1:17 “Every good ___________________ and every perfect
gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights...”
There are three types of Spiritual Gifts: Gifts of Office, Ministry Gifts,
and Manifestation Gifts
o 1 Corinthians 12:5-7 “And there are differences of
_________________________, but the same Master. And there
are diversities of _________________, but it is the same God
which worketh all in all. But the ____________________ of the
Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.”
Gifts of Office (Giftings for Roles in the Body of Messiah)
Each follower of Christ has ____________________ Gift(s) of Office,
given for ________________ and ________________ the Body of Christ.
Gifts of Office are assigned _______________________ within the Body
(Church)… They are areas of ______________________.
o Romans 12:4 “For as we have many members in one body, and all
members have not the same
_____________________.”
o Exodus 40:13 “And thou
shalt put upon Aaron the
holy garments… that he
may minister unto Me in the
priest's _______________.”
o 1 Corinthians 12:27-31
“Now ye are the Body of
Christ, and members in
particular. And God hath set
some in the Church, first
apostles, secondarily
prophets, thirdly teachers,
after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments,

diversities of tongues. Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all
teachers? Are all workers of miracles? Have all the gifts of
healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? But covet
earnestly the best Gifts: and yet show I unto you a more excellent
way.”
It is only through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit that we can
effectively fulfill these roles.
o 1 Samuel 16:12-13 “…And Yahweh said, Arise, anoint him (David):
for this is he (the one Yahweh had appointed to take the office of
king). Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the
midst of his brethren: and the _______________ of Yahweh came
upon David from that day forward…”
It is important for us to KNOW Yahweh’s Calling for us, individually. This
is because Yahweh wants us to put the Heavenly Gifts to ____________
in His Body – for His Glory –
o Romans 12:6-8 “Having then gifts differing according to the grace
that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us __________________
according to the proportion of faith, or ministry, let us wait on our
__________________: or he that teacheth, on teaching; Or he
that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with
simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that showeth mercy,
with cheerfulness.”
o See also Matthew 25:14-29
Gifts of Ministry
Within the Body of Christ, every believer is called into ministry to further
the Work of the Kingdom.
While we hold a main Office, we are gifted with multiple
_______________________ Giftings, as needed to bless the Body and
complete our Heaven-given Callings.
o 1 Peter 4:9-11 “Use hospitality one to another without grudging.
As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same

one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. If
any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man
minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God
in all things may be ________________________ through
Yahshua Messiah, to Whom be praise and dominion for ever and
ever. Amen.”
Manifestation Gifts – the Miraculous Results which Glorify Yahweh
Every believer has a main Gift of _______________ in the Body of
Messiah and one or more Gifts of Ministry (which are used in carrying
out the work of the Office).
From Yahweh’s Grace-empowered Work in these Giftings, Yahweh
produces much “fruit” for His Kingdom and to His Glory:
o John 15:5-8 “I Am the Vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth
in Me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much ____________:
for without Me ye can do nothing. If a man abide not in Me, he is
cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and
cast them into the fire, and they are burned. If ye abide in Me, and
My Words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be
done unto you. Herein is my Father _____________________,
that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be My disciples.”

Going Deeper: Generosity is the Opposite of Stinginess
They that be wise shall shine as the stars – Daniel 12:3
Our light is of no benefit unless it is displayed for all to see.
One powerful way we let our light shine to Yahweh’s glory is demonstrating
generosity in our dealings with others.
Generosity is demonstrating the nature of Yahweh by wisely investing the
resources He has entrusted to us.
Generosity follows the laws of the harvest. The more we sow, the more we reap.
o “But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he
which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully” 2 Corinthians 9:6
The test of generosity is not how much we give, but how much we have left.
Generosity is the result of focusing on Yahweh’s riches rather than our resources.
o “For every beast of the forest is Mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills”
Psalm 50:10
Yahshua wants to show a ___________________ between your life (as a child of Light) and the lives of those in the world. – Ezekiel 22:26
A ____________________ heart reflects the glory of Yahweh. A complaining heart communicates the gloom of the world. – Philippians 2:14-15
The ultimate good work is to turn others from _______________ to ___________________________. – Daniel 12:3
When others know you are a Child of the Light, they will attribute your _____________ ________________ to Christ, glorifying Yahweh. – Titus 3:8, 1 Peter 2:12

An Hour of Prayer (to do at your own leisure during this weekend)
During Messiah’s intense prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane, His disciples fell asleep. He then
said to them, “What, could ye not watch with Me one hour?” (Matthew 26:40). Many will find it
difficult to spend an hour in prayer until they follow a schedule such as the following. Spend at
least five minutes on each topic, but allow the Holy Spirit to extend any one.
1. PRAISE – Praise YAHWEH for His Names, Character, and great works – Psalm 145:1-3
2. LEADERS – Pray for those in authority in your life & home – 1 Timothy 2:1-2
3. GOD’S WORD – Turn each verse of a Psalm into a personal prayer – Psalm 19:14
4. CONFESS SIN – Read and personalize Psalm 51. Claim the Blood of Yahshua – 1 John 1:9
5. LISTEN – Be still before YAHWEH and listen to His promptings to your heart and
conscience – Isaiah 30:21
6. CONVERSE – Use sentence prayers to carry on a conversation with God – Exodus 33:11
7. FAMILY – Pray for each member of your family and for the families of the group – Job
1:4-5
8. CHURCH – Thank YAHWEH for the Body of Christ. Pray for Unity, Truth, and power for
each member – Colossians 1:2-3
9. GIVE THANKS – Think of things you do not ordinarily thank God for. Thank Him – 1
Chronicles 16:34
10. NATIONS – Ask YAHWEH to rebuke the principalities over nations – Psalm 2:8-10
11. SING – Read or sing favorite songs unto YAHWEH – Psalm 104:33-34
12. AFFIRM – Recall Scriptural promises that YAHWEH has given for areas of need in your
life. Claim them from Him – 2 Peter 1:4
