1. Always unplug the DVD AC power cord from the ACpowersourcebefore:
(1)Removingorreinstallinganycomponent,circuitboard,module,oranyotherassembly.
(2) Disconnection or reconnecting any internal electricalplugorotherelectricalconnection.
(3) Connecting a test substi tute in parallel with anelectrolytic capacitor
A wrong part substitution or incorrectpolarity installation of electrolytic capacitors mayresultinanexplosionhazard.

4. Do not defeat any plug/socket B+ voltage interlocks withwitch instruments covered by this service manual mightbeequipped.
5. Do not apply AC power to this DVD and/or any of itselectrical assemblies unless all solid-state device heatsinksarecorrectlyinstalled.
6. Always connect test instrument ground lead to theappropriate ground before connection the testinstrument positive lead. Always remove the testinstrumentgroundleadlast.
Disconnect theattachmentplugtromtheACoutletandturnthepoweron.Connectaninsulationresistancemeter(500V)to the blades of the attachment plug. The insulationresistance between each bladeof the attachment plug andaccessible conductive parts (Note 1) should be more than1Mohm.

ElectrostaticallySensitive(ES)Devices
Some semiconductor (solidstate)devicescan bedamagedeasily by static electricity. Such components commonly arecalled ElectrostaticallySensitive(ES) Devices.Examplesoftypical ES devices are integrated circuits and some fieldeffecttransistorsandsemiconductorchipcomponents.
Thefollowingtechniquesshouldbeused tohelpreducetheincidenceofcomponentdamagecausedbystaticelectricity.
1. Immediately before handling any semiconductorcomponentor semiconductor-equippedassembly,drainoff any electrostatic charge on your body by touching aknown earth ground. Alternatively, obtain and wear acommercially available discharging wrist strap device,which should be removed for potential shock reasonspriortoapplyingpowertotheunitundertest.
2. Afterremovingan electrical assembly equipped with ESdevices, place the assembly on a conductive surfacesuch as aluminum toil, to prevent electrostatic chargebuilduporexposureoftheassembly.
3. Use only a GROUNDED-tip soldering iron to solder orunsolderESdevices.
4. Use only an anti-static solder removal device. Somesolder removal devices not classified a "anti-static" cangenerate electrical charges sufficient to damage ESdevices.
5. Do not use freon-propelled chemicals. These cangenerate electrical charge sufficient to damage ESdevices.
6. Do not remove a replacement ES device from itsprotective package until immediately before you areready to install it. (Most replacement ES devices arepackaged with leads electrically shorted together byconductive foam, aluminum foil, or comparableconductive material.)
7. Immediately before removing the protective materialfrom the leads of a replacement ES device, touch theprotective material to the chassis or circuit assemblyintowhichthedevicewillbeinstalled.
Caution : Be sure no powerisapplied to the chassis orcircuit,andobserveallothersafetyprecautions.
8. Minimize bodily motions when handling unpackagedreplacement ES devices. (Normally harmless motionsuchasthebrushingtogetherofyourclothesfabricorthelifting of your foot from a carpeted floor can generatestatic electricitysufficienttodamageanESdevice.)
