Ambitions

Our mission The mission of Charity organization Serbs for Serbs is to affect on consciousness of Serbian people through our projects and humanitarian activities, in order to develop better society for future generations. Why Serbs for Serbs? We wanted to alleviate impaired spirit of Serbian people in togetherness and brotherhood help through humanitarian work and social aid. Who do we help? We help Serbian families who live in the Balkans, have five or more children and live in terrible poverty. How do we define “terrible poverty”? Under terrible poverty we define absence of one or more basic factors required for living: food, clothes, shoes, and safe space for living. Why do we help? We believe that there is a basic need for one human (or a group) to help others in distress. A help is not only human virtue but also a Christian responsibility. By focusing our help on families with many children, we directly affect on their stirring toward becoming independent from social-dependable government programs. Indirectly, we want to affect on birth rate of Serbian people that has been in great decline in last 20 years. What are our long term goals? • family is ready to support itself daily and

manage to pay all required expenses and bills;

• their children are encouraged to continue with school and raising their own family;

• our donors are satisfied with the activities and they are ready to help other families;

• our organization is satisfied with the results; • family is ready in the future to become our

donor and if necessary help other families that are in need of help.

Who do we need in organization? We need members and donors that will secure financial stability through supporting our programs and activities in the future. Donors may join our daily activities within the organization in order to coordinate our work better. We also need volunteers ready to donate several hours per week for actual work within the organization. Activities of volunteers and their specific tasks would be determined by the required projects and their personal interest. From that group of volunteers we would look for future leaders of organization.

VIDOVDAN SFS VISIT TO KOSMET

Charity organization Serbs for Serbs organized 14th in a raw action of help to the Serbian families on Kosovo and Metohija within the celebration of the great holiday Vidovdan. In cooperation and with selfless help of our friends from the Eparchy Charity organization Mother of nine Jugović from Gračanica, we visited and talked to five Serbian families in municipality Novo Brdo, who showed the will to grow cattle (sheep). The first family we visited was the family Perić from the village Izvor in municipality Novo Brdo. Dragan (36) and his wife Trajanka (32) have four children: Dejan (14), Danijel (12), Kristina (6) and the youngest Irena, who is four months old. Dragan's parents Nikola and Stana live in the same household. Dragan refused to receive food from the charity kitchens, because he wants to provide the necessary for his family on his own. He emphasized that there are people and children who need food from the charity kitchens more. Unfortunately, Dragan and his family survived the torture of the Albanian gangs, who were shooting on them. Dragan was heavily wounded, but he decided to stay on his land.

Dragan and Trajanka told us that the Albanians are occasionally deterring them, attacking the cattle barns and taking firewood from the Serbian forests. Many families cannot endure the pressure, so the collective migrations are frequent from settlements all over Kosovo and Metohija. During our visit, a neighboring family was packing and moving to a town in central Serbia. In order to provide existence to the Serbian families who are struggling to stay on their homeland, the representatives of our organization agreed with Perić to help them get 5 sheep to spread their flock. The next families we visited were the families Simjonović from the village Mašince in Novo Brdo. The families consist of the brothers Slañan and Dragan who live in separate households with their wives Sanja (27) and Jelena (21), respectively, and the children Stefan (9), Sonja (7), Anñela (4) and Andrijana (2).

The brothers Simjonović are trying to provide the existence for their children, without someone else's support. They are engaged in agriculture and animal husbandry. They have several hectares of land, but it is of low quality. We agreed to provide each brother with five sheep. The fourth family we visited was the Kostić family, also from the village Mašinci. A returnee family Kostić consists of Vladimir, his sons Nebojša, Goran and Žika, and wife Jasmina (25) and her children Miloš (3) and Petar (1). The family lives of agriculture, with all the problems related to the quality of land. Four years ago, the Albanian gangs stole 3 cows from the barn, and thus prevents them from using the dairy products. We agreed to get them five sheep, which could engage all the members of the family.

The last family we visited in the action was the family Simić. Dragan and Nenka are the proud parents of three children: Milica (19), Milan (18) and Dejan (16), but the parents who are tired worrying for their children who have often been sick. We proposed to Dragan to get them five sheep, but he asked us to get them a cow instead, because they need milk for the children.

We finished the action by visiting charity kitchens in Prekovac and Vitina, and by visiting the farm of goats whose milk is being transported to the charity kitchens on Kosovo and Metohija. Charity organization Serbs for Serbs will provide the necessary means in July (estimated approximately 3,500 EUR for 20 sheep and a cow), which will give a start-up for the families in Novo Brdo to become financially independent. We use this opportunity to call upon the representatives of the Ministry for Kosovo and Metohija, as well as other state officials not to turn their head away from the problems which the Serbs on Kosovo and Metohija are facing, but to start resolving their problems. We express special gratitude to our friends from the Eparchy charity organization Mother of nine Jugović, in the hope that we will soon meet them again, and help our people on Kosovo and Metohija in the manner they are applying each day.

HELP ARRIVED FOR THE VULIĆ FAMILY

Charity organization Serbs for Serbs helped during July a seven-member family Vulić from Ostružnica. This hardworking family left a nice impression during our first visit to them, because the parents are trying to provide everything their children need. We brought double-decker beds with mattresses and two commodes, in the amount of 33,006 dinars.

We plan to get them the windows for the children’s room, which should raise the quality of this family’s life. No surrender!

WATER PUMP FOR FAMILY MARIJANOVIĆ

Family Marijanović, whom we have helped before, asked us to help them again. Their water pump was broken, so they were left without water, and they had to go several miles from the house and haul water. The expences of fixing the pump were too high, so we decided to get them a new pump. The family announced that mother Mira is pregnant, and she is expecting her tenth child. Cost of the action – water pump 455 KM.

ANOTHER PACKAGE OF HELP FOR THE LIBRARY

By sending the last package of help during the first week of July, we finished a mini-project of equipping the school/local library in Donja Trepča near Čačak. The selfless help of the friends of our organization, including Mr. Bane, considerably contributed to equipping the school library, which the pupils and inhabitants of Donja Trepča will be able to use.

During the past year, we provided and sent: • 763 books, • 12 cds, • 38 magazines, • 60 picture books, 8 different coloring books, • 2 computers with monitors, key boards and

mice, • stereo speakers, • DVD player, • other computer components.

This is the first project of a kind, undertook by our organization with the help of our friends. Although equipping of school libraries doesn't fit into our primary mission, it is sure that those kind of projects will occupy more and more space in our charity action, because the education of the youngest is equally important as their economic stability.

SUCCESSFULL SFS TOURNAMENT IN CANADA

Charity organization Serbs for Serbs from Canada successfully organized a wonderful ambience for the football tournament, which took place on 7th July in Hamilton, and attracted great attention of the local Serbian community. There were 12 teams from four different cities. The tournament began with a speech of organizers and Serbian anthem on the estate of the Holy Trinity. Football was played at 3 courts up to 7 pm. In this fantastic atmosphere, we managed to collect 3,705 dollars.

In the final two teams from Hamilton and Toronto were met – FC Otpisani against the team FC Ultra Serbs. First place took the home team that won 3-1. This wonderful ambience gave us hope and faith that, no matter how far we are, we will always be with our Serbian people, wherever he may be! All funds from this tournament will be sent to the families in the Serbian regions who desperately need our help. We would like to thank all participants, donors, viewers, and of course our sponsors:

– Gala Grocery, – Golden Bakery, – Golden Flame, – Dr Surla, – Dr Ernjakovic and – Aquacat Foam, who contributed to successful realization of tournament.

This is just the first in a series of large charity actions of Charity Organization Serbs for Serbs in Canada.

CHILDREN ARE OUR FUTURE! NO SURRENDER!

SUCCESSFUL CHARITY CONCERT IN LONDON

On Saturday 23rd June 2012, a humanitarian concert in aid of Serbian families in Kosovo and Metohia, was organised at the famous and prestigious London live venue – The Borderline. Organised by Nikola Cobic (who lives in London), it featured performances from 4 London based bands – Princip, Lonely Bird, Eastroad, and Arhai. 3 out of 4 bands have at least one band-member who is Serbian. The idea is to raise funds for the Serbs through popular music and friendly gathering of Serbs and friends of Serbs in London. The event was well attended, mostly by members of the Serbian community in London, but many English people as well. Those who could not attend were able to help the humanitarian cause by purchasing tickets online through established ticket sellers. The concert started in the early evening, and first on were Arhai – a duo featuring Jovana Backovic (from Belgrade). Arhai play Balkan etno inspired music, modernised by synthesizers and a tambura. Next on were Eastroad – the only band on the night’s bill who didn’t have any Serbian members, but were willing to help the cause. Then it was turn for Lonely Bird, Daniel Trivic’s band. They played energetic and interesting alt/rock music, inspired by r’n’b, and well liked by the crowd. The headliners – Princip band were next up. Their melodic pop-rock music, and great connection with the crowd was well received, and much dancing took place too. The culmination was when Princip raised a Serbian flag on stage, which was greeted by a massive cheers from the fans. As one girl in the audience said – “Oh, I only wish it lasted longer). A great night indeed. Most importantly, the organisers managed to raise £810 (around 1000 Euros) for charity, which was almost immediately sent to Serbs For Serbs charity organisation, who have already brought it to the most needy families in Kosovo and Metohija.

This was only the first concert of this sort in London. Nikola Cobic has already said that there will be more to come, hopefully even bigger and stronger, and of course raising even more fund for all those Serbs who need it most. _____________________________________________

4TH JULY PICNIC NEW GRACANICA MONASTERY

The Chicago chapter of Serbs for Serbs attended the Fourth of July picnic at the New Gracanica Monastery in Grays Lake, Illinois to help raise awareness of our organizations and collect donations. Because of the 104 degree weather, the turn out at the picnic was very low, but the generosity of the visitors to our booth was very large. We were able to collect $850 in donations from the sale of T-shirts, books and framed photographs of historic Serbian Monasteries. The books were kindly donated by the Bubamara Bookstore in Chicago and the photographs by Petko Petrovich.

We had many visitors to our booth who were introduced to the organization for the first time as well as visitors who were very familiar with our charity work. We also received very generous donations from Goran Stosovic along with Dusan & Aleksandar Jovanovic who have
