Hello, Selamat, Nǐ hǎo, Kamusta,

Namaste, Vanakkam, Goede

dag, Olá, G’day … I think is how

‘hello’ is said in some of the

many languages that we as

Eurasians might be associated

with.

We celebrated International Day on a very wet

and windy August Sunday with around 190

people braving the weather. Some members

were smartly dressed in their Kebayas, Baju

Kurung and Baju Melayu. Thank you for the

wonderful effort. You all looked great!

As usual the food and drinks were delightful

and it complimented the wonderful music of

Flashback (Jim D’Oliverio, Winston Walters,

Derrick Holmes & Chad Beins with the help of

Harvey Fitzgerald), an interlude of guitar

mastery from Brian Leicester & Mario Conier

and the highlight of the afternoon must have

surely been the resounding singalong ably led

by Uncle Horace Sta Maria. Thank you so much

for your help cooks, helpers & entertainers!!!

But wait there’s more…after the lunch, a group

of 50 members made their way to AMF

Cannington for a couple of games of ten pin

bowling. Hidden talents were revealed as pride

was at stake for some. Then, in true Eurasian

style, the very long day ended at Spencer

Village for around 35 members who kicked on

for the celebratory dinner and prize giving. For

more details please look inside the newsletter.

Great job Graeme Mitchell & Margaret

Chowdhurie!

Notice is hereby given that an EGM will

be convened during the September

luncheon to accept the financial state-

ment carried over from the last AGM.

At the AGM, the Auditor was satisfied

that the accounts balanced, but needed

clarification from the Treasurer on some

minor issues. However, with the Treas-

urer being overseas at the time, it was

decided by those present at the AGM

that the financial statement be held over

pending the Treasurer’s return. The Audi-

tor is now satisfied that all is in order.

Please note that the delay is due to cir-

cumstances beyond the control of the

current management committee, and

brought about by the Treasurer being on

vacation during the AGM, and the Audi-

tor engaged in other duties since the re-

turn of the Treasurer.

In view of the timing of the Auditor’s fi-

nal report, the management committee

has decided to waive the 14 day EGM

notice requirement, as the acceptance of

the financial statement is a formal re-

quirement. All issues relating to the bal-

ance sheet were cleared up at the AGM

so there should be no delay in accepting

the accounts. It is expected that the EGM

will take about 10 minutes, and be of mi-

nor disruption to an anticipated enjoy-

able afternoon.

Visit to EA Singapore & SRC

On my recent visit to Singapore, I had

the opportunity to meet with the Presi-

dent, Benett Theseira, 2nd Vice President,

Yvonne Pereira and 2 committee mem-

bers Francesca Eber and Michelle Tessen-

sohn from the EA Management Commit-

tee in Singapore. I was given a tour of

their beautiful premises, EA House, be-

fore we sat for a casual conversation over

a light meal.

It was very interesting that although our

associations vary drastically by age, mem-

bership and expenditure, yet we faced

strikingly similar concerns namely Youth

participation, an ageing membership and

a stronger push for Community Services

(NB. we are soon to turn 25, while they

are heading for their 100th Anniversary

shortly and our membership & expendi-

ture is significantly dwarfed by their

3,500 members and a financial annual

budget of around of S$1.5 million).

We parted company after a short ex-

change of ideas but not before a hand of

friendship and a warm invitation was ex-

tended by both EA’s for ALL members to

With Benett Theseira

(President EA S’pore)

freely participate in all activities organ-

ised in Singapore and Perth.

Yvonne Pereira then gave me a very

gracious invite to visit the Singapore

Recreation Club (SRC) where I was

given an exciting tour of their magnifi-

cent premises and met with their Gen-

eral Manager, Dr. Abdul Rashid, Vice

President, Capt Francis Koh, Resident

Manager, Duncan Roberts and our last

remaining Eurasian representative on

the SRC Committee, Terence Shepherd-

son, who made me feel very welcomed.

I am extremely grateful to both organi-

sations for their unsurpassed hospitality,

challenging exchange of ideas and gen-

erous offers made to our members. I

hope for a lasting and happy relation-

ship for the mutual benefit of all our

members. Thank You all for a wonderful

time!

A BIG thank you to Margaret Chowdhurie

on the Bowling list, 33 players ended up

bowling on the day – THANK YOU!!

Well, I think a good time was had by all, bowlers and spectators (thank you for coming

of little CHOCOLATE spot prizes.

After the event the majority headed off to ‘Spencer’s Village’ to refuel the tanks.

With ‘Tummies’ full again some prizes were given out to the top scorers –
