September Safety Banquet Honors
Safe Employees
“I’ve been mining since 1970,” began Dave Rascon as the standing ovation quieted.
“Mining’s always been good to me; RMGC has been especially good to me,” he told the
banquet room. Dave was awarded the top award of the night for 35 years of safe work-
ing and announced his retirement. Several colleagues thanked Dave by sharing memo-
ries of early truck shop days. Congratulations, Dave, and enjoy your retirement. See
more banquet attendees on pages 2, 3, 4, & 10.

“Safety is fickle. What is the key thing that’s made the difference? We must be focused at critical moments of
the task. Safety is successful when we deal with hazards at the lowest levels. Safety is a fundamental core of
our work expectation. You’re all a big part of working and thinking that way.” Neil Jensen, RMGC GM/Pres

Feeling Fatigued?
Lack of sleep is not the only issue that leads to fatigue.
Stress, life changes, poor diet, lack of exercise,
lifestyle choices and medical conditions are all contrib-
uting factors when considering fatigue. The
effects of fatigue can include slower reaction time,
increased errors and decreased cognitive ability.
7 simple ways YOU can combat fatigue:
1. Take a deep breath. Deep breathing helps deliver
oxygen to your cells and nutrients to your blood-
stream.
2. Get active! Exercise has consistently been linked
to improved energy and overall quality of life.
3. Drink plenty of water. Sufficient Hydration is a
main source of energy for the body.
4. Eat small, frequent meals. Eating smaller meals
more regularly will help regulate your blood glu-
cose levels, as well as gradually increasing ener-
gy.
5. Listen to music. Turn up the music, let go, dance
and sing at the top of your lungs.
6. Embrace optimism. A negative outlook is a huge
energy drain and is often associated with poor
productivity levels.
7. Go to bed earlier and shut down the information
overload! Our media culture offers up sensory
experiences that don’t nourish us even when they
seem pleasurable. Too much stimulation can leave
you feeling depleted and fatigued.
