information and phone numbers, when re-enrolling
for the new year. Please also pay 4-H dues early to
allow us to order new materials for the start of the
new year.

returning families to participate in Fair will be
December 31, 2019. New families have until Feb-
ruary 1, 2020 to enroll. However, new members
may join a 4-H Club at any time of the year, without
enrolling in a project—provided that club has space
and is not closed. Please remember the following

rollment & pay 4-H dues for returning fami-
lies.

4-H CLUB/COUNCIL FINANCIAL AUDITS Due Nov. 1st!
It’s that time of year again when the Financial Accountability forms need to be turned in to the Bonner County Extension Office. As is stated in the 4-H Youth Development Policies and Procedures 2018-2020, “Under the federal legislation governing the use of the 4-H name and emblem, IRS reporting requirements for groups oper-ating as tax-exempt nonprofits are required to keep track of all transactions pertaining to financial management practices of their UI Extension sponsored groups (including 4-H clubs and affiliates)”. Because of this legislation and the resulting UI Extension policy, it is extremely important that all 4-H clubs be able to document the source of money raised and how it was distributed.” These Financial Audit forms can be emailed to you by request or can be picked up at the Extension Office.
The annual financial requirements set forth by University of Idaho Extension, 4-H include:
1) All 4-H clubs, councils and committees that handle money, in any capacity, must have an EIN (Employee Iden-tification Number) filed with the IRS.
2) Have club/committee/Council financial records audited by a committee comprised of adult volunteers and youth.
3) Submit their Annual Summary Financial Report and a copy of the last month’s bank statement to the county Extension office by November 1st.
4-H Enrollment Open House Event
October 19th * 1:30—4:30 PM at the Extension Office
This year, we will hold a couple of Open House events at the Extension Office to encourage new fami-
lies to join the 4-H Program. Please invite a friend, neighbor or relative to join Bonner County 4-H
and invite them to attend an Open House Event to learn more about the 4-H Program. The first En-
rollment Open House event is scheduled for Saturday, October 19th, 2019 from 1:30-4:30 PM. Cur-
rent Leaders are welcome to attend and talk about their clubs. 4-H Youth are also invited to partici-
pate and talk about their projects or bring a small animal to share. New families will have access to a
laptop computer and may enroll at the event and also pay dues. The Enrollment Open House
events will continue to replace Family Fun Night, as attendance at Family Fun Night has been
very low in past years and feedback from leaders was that the event was not worth the effort made.
A second Enrollment Open House will be held in January of 2020. Date to be determined.
2019-2020 4-H Enrollment Cost Increase
Every year, our office pays dues to the University of Idaho 4-H Youth Development based on the num-
ber of members enrolled in our county. For years, these participation fees have remained the same
and allowed us to keep our enrollment dues low for all of our members. This year, the state has had to
increase the yearly dues which means we have had to increase our enrollment costs for the new year.
These increases are simply to make sure we can continue to operate on the same budget for meeting
the needs of our members each year.
4-H Dues for the 2018/19 Year: $25 for up to three projects
$27 for up to three projects with Horse and/or Motorbike/ATV
$3 for each additional project
Leader dues will remain $3 for the year (Horse, ATV, Motorbike pay $4)

Thank you to everyone who helped make the Livestock Auction a
success this year. We worked with Mitch Royer as our
Auctioneer again and prices were good. We had several new
buyers this year and also saw a lot of returning buyers. Please
remind your market animal 4-H members to send in their buyer
thank you cards. Checks will not be mailed out to 4-H
members until thank you cards have been received by
the Extension office. Buyer Appreciation Plaques will be sent
out by end of September.

2019 Herdsmanship Club Awards
This year the barns were visited by members of the Bonner Coun-
ty Farm Bureau. They used an evaluation form modeled after a
form used by Oregon State Extension to score each barn according
to three main categories: Health and care of the animals (40
points), cleanliness and maintenance of the barns (40 points), and
on the 4-H members themselves (20 points). The 2019 4-H Club
Awards are listed as follows:
Beef : Gold N Grouse Goats: Hoodoo Hustlers
Swine: Gold N Grouse Rabbit: Yodeling Coyotes
Sheep: Hoodoo Hustlers* Poultry: Careywood Eager Beavers
*An error was noticed with announced club winner. We are sorry for
the confusion and the correct winner is listed above.
The Herdsmanship Award plaques were made out of sheet metal and
then powder coated by students in the Metal Shop class at Sandpoint
High School. The cost of Herdsmanship Plaques were sponsored as
follows:

Swine/Sagle Saddle Tramps 4-H Club

and the name of the winning club. Big thank you to the Bonner Farm
Bureau and to our award sponsors.
