Please do not park in the visitor’s spaces in front of the church. September’s President's Message:

Can’t believe it’s September! We welcomed quite a few guests and new members at the June

meeting. The summer Art Festival was wonderful. Kudos to Hilaire Radowick for organizing this

event, no small task. Emily Porter, Donna Moen and many, many more deserve our thanks.

Cathie Johnson and Greg Trathen worked with the Lodge at Mallard’s Landing for a lovely recep-

tion for the Member’s Show. This is a special event for our members and we had a good variety of

art displayed.

We are experiencing somewhat of a dilemma in filling positions for the Board. We still need

members to fill President, Member at Large, Monthly Programs, Summer Art Festival 2016, and

Open Juried Show 2016. So as you can see, there are some slots to fill. Please consider where

you can share your time to keep PAL going.

Please make a note of the reception for the Open Show, September 12th. Your fellow members have put a lot of time and en-

ergy into this event and it should be wonderful.

I look forward to seeing you all at the next meeting September 22nd

. This is one of those early ones. It is also a screening

night.

President.

Gig Harbor 2015 Open Show! Peninsula Art League presents 13

th Annual Open Juried Art Show Sept. 12-Oct.18

The exhibit features 2D and 3D work by 120 US and Canadian artists GIG HARBOR – Gig Harbor’s History Museum is again the site of Peninsula Art League’s annual Open Juried Art Show. The exhibit opens Sept. 12 with an awards reception at 6pm. Dawn Emerson, a pastel artist and author from Bend, Oregon will jury the paintings, jewelry, fiber arts and sculpture. Olympia photographer Larry Ikenberry will judge the pho-tography entries. “We had entries from more than 250 artists throughout the U.S. and Canada,” said show organizer Sandy Newhouse. “Our jurors pared it down to 120 of the best works.” Five mediums are represented in the show: drawing, painting, mixed media, 3D artwork – including fiber art, jewelry and sculpture – as well as black and white, color and digital photography. All work is for sale, with a percentage of each sale benefiting the museum, Newhouse said. More than $3,000 in awards will be presented from show sponsors Jack Richardson & Company, Harbor Place at Cottesmore, Larson-Juhl, Mallard’s Landing, Water’s Edge Gallery, Ebb Tide Gallery and private donors. Refreshments for the reception will be provided by Peninsula Independent Retirement. The museum will offer wine for $5 a glass. Admission to the opening reception is free. After Sept. 12, the show is included with regular museum admission. Mu-seum hours are Tuesday-Sunday, 10am-5pm. For information, contact Sandy Newhouse at [email protected]. JOAN TENENBAUM: Birds and Their Habitat

Art Jeweler Joan Tenenbaum (Non-Indigenous) presents fine new jew-elry in cloisonné and silver that celebrate birds and the places they in-habit. Tenenbaum transforms scenes from nature into delicate vignettes made of cloi-sonné (colored glass with gold wires) and

extremely fine hand-worked silver. Take note: more works are on the way. Keep an eye on our site in the com-ing weeks.

Other topics include: Air Brush, Block Print, Collage, Colored Pencil, Drawing, Gouache, Mixed Media, Pen & Ink, Portraits, Sculpture, and Mat Cutting.
