GOD’S WATCHERS In the ancient world watch-men were extremely important people. They kept communities safe, and were there to alert them to any impending danger or attack. Before locks, alarms, and security systems, watchmen were the protectors, the safety measure. So when the Lord charges Ezekiel as a watchman today, it is a weighty charge. So weighty, we learn, that if Ezekiel fails to sound the alarm for those around him and they per-ish in a state of wickedness, Ezekiel will be held responsible! This profound con-nection between God’s will on earth and in heaven is repeated in today’s Gospel, where Jesus instructs us that we are to be the security force, the watchers placed on alert that nowhere in the Body of Christ, the church, will there be any two members of the one Body who are not reconciled. Scripture tells us that Jesus reconciled all things in heaven and on earth through the blood of his cross. But we are giv-en the mission to continue that reconciliation on earth as in heaven through our ceaseless efforts to be, as Paul would write, ambassadors of reconcilia-tion. Let us not get too comfortable thinking that we are responsible only for keeping our own lives from the path of wickedness and disagreement. We are also held accountable for the lives of the members of Christ’s body around us. CENTINELAS DE DIOS

En el mundo de la anti-güedad los centinelas eran gen-te de gran importancia. Mante-nían la seguridad de las comuni-dades y su deber era alertarles sobre cualquier peligro o ataque inminente. Antes de que hubiera cerrojos, sistemas de alarma y seguridad, los centinelas eran los protectores, la medida de seguridad. Así que cuando hoy el Señor le encarga a Ezequiel ser centinela, es un cargo de peso. Tan pesado, se nos hace conocer, que si Ezequiel falla y no da la voz de alarma a los que

le rodean y ellos mueren en estado de maldad, ¡Ezequiel será el responsable! Este profundo víncu-lo entre la voluntad de Dios en la tierra y en el cielo se repite en el Evangelio de hoy, donde Jesús nos instruye que tenemos que ser la fuerza de seguri-dad, los centinelas colocados en estado de alerta para que en ninguna parte del Cuerpo de Cristo, la Iglesia, haya dos miembros del único Cuerpo que no estén reconciliados. La Sagrada Escritura nos dice que Jesús reconcilió todas las cosas en el cielo y en la tierra mediante la sangre de su cruz. Pero se nos da la misión de continuar esa reconciliación en la tierra por medio de nuestros incesantes esfuerzos de ser, como escribiera Pablo, embajadores de re-conciliación. No nos quedemos muy cómodos pen-sando que nuestra única responsabilidad es mante-nernos fuera del camino de la maldad y la discordia. También hemos de responder por la vida de los miembros de Cristo que nos rodean.

New Pastoral Plan for St. Anthony Claret

My Dear Friends in Christ,

I am grateful that Bishop Kevin Vann has appointed me Pastor of St. Anthony Claret since July 1, 2017. I am also thankful for the prayers and support that I have received from each of you as faithful parishioners of our beloved parish. As I begin my new mission as your Pastor with the special Mass of Installation on October 1st, I would like to share with all of you some of my reflections for a proposed new Pastoral Plan which I believe would make our parish more vibrant and fruitful! A pastoral plan’s purpose generally reflects and expresses (1) our identity as a community, (2) the gifts that we value and share in com-mon, (3) and the growth that we would hope to see in the future. My goal for us is to chart out our path for the next three years and beyond. I am in the process of consulting with some great resource people of the Diocese to help me develop such a Pas-toral Plan. I intend to involve and consult as many parishioners as possible in this great task. Having consulted with the Parish Staff, Pastoral Council, and Finance Council, I have identified some key ministries, pro-grams, and areas which need our immediate attention while a Pastoral Plan is being developed:

Change of Mass times: Effective September 24, 2017, there will be changes ONLY for two Masses. The 8:00am Spanish Mass will start at 7:45 am. And the 5:00pm Spanish Mass on Sunday will start at 4:45pm. This will provide more time for better traffic flow for parishioners attending these Masses and the subsequent Masses.

Change in Confirmation Program: Effective September 24, the Confirmation Program will be moving from Monday night to Sunday afternoon. Classes will be starting from 3:15pm-4:30pm, and conclude with the 4:45pm Mass.

Stewardship Program & Renewal: Our new Stewardship Committee will be introducing the Stewardship Program as a Way of Life for our parish. Presenta-tions will be given to the English-speaking Community in late October and early November. Our Spanish Community has already begun the Stewardship Program known as Corresponbilidad since January 2017 with Mr. Koren Ruiz ( from Portland), and are hoping to further develop their gifts of Time, Talent, and Treasure.

Nuevo Plan Pastoral para San Antonio Claret

Mis Queridos Hermanos en Cristo,

Agradezco al Señor Obispo Kevin Vann el haberme asignado como párroco de San Antonio Claret el 1ro de Julio del 2017. También agradezco las oraciones y apoyo brindados por cada uno de ustedes, los fieles feligreses de nuestra querida par-roquia. Al comenzar mi nueva misión como su párroco en la Misa de instalación el 1ro de Octubre, deseo compartir con ustedes mis reflexiones para la propuesta de un nuevo Plan Pastoral. ¡Creo que esto haría a nuestra parroquia más vi-brante y fructífera! El propósito de un Plan Pastoral general-mente refleja y expresa (1) nuestra identidad como comunidad, (2) los dones que valoramos y compartimos en común, (3) y el crecimiento que esperamos ver en un futuro. Mi meta es trazar el camino para los próximos tres años y más. Estoy en el pro-ceso de consultar con algunos recursos de la Diócesis para ayudarme a desarrollar este plan pastoral. Mi intención es invo-lucrar y consultar a varios de ustedes en esta gran tarea. Habiendo consultado al personal parroquial, el Concilio Pastoral, y el Concilio de Finanzas, he identificado algunos ministerios, programas y areas claves que necesitan atención inmediata mientras se desarrolla el Plan Pastoral.

Cambio en Horario de Misas: Efectivo el 24 de Septiem-bre del 2017, habrá cambios SOLAMENTE en dos Misas en español. La Misa los Domingos a las 8:00am comenzará a las 7:45am. La Misa los Domingos a las 5:00pm comenzará a las 4:45pm. Esto proporcionará más tiempo para un mejor flujo de tráfico para los que asisten a estas Misas y las Misas subsiguientes.

Cambios en el Programa de Confirmación: Efectivo el 24 de Septiembre, el Programa de Confirmación cambiará de Lunes a Domingo por la tarde. Las clases darán comienzo de las 3:15pm a las 4:30pm, y concluirán con la Misa de 4:45pm.

Programa de Corresponsabilidad y Renovación: Nues-tro nuevo Comité de Corresponsabilidad presen-tará el Programa de Corresponsabilidad como un Modo de Vida a nuestra parroquia. Las presentac-iones se harán a nuestra comunidad de habla Inglesa a fines de Octubre, principios de Noviembre. La co-munidad Hispana comenzó el programa de Corre-sponsabilidad en Enero del 2017 con el Señor Koren Ruiz, y están en proceso de desarrollar los dones de Tiempo, Talento, y Tesoro.

Sigo pidiendo sus oraciones y apoyo mientras avanzamos co-mo Comunidad de Fe en el cumplimiento de la Misión de Dios aquí en nuestra querida parroquia. En la Promesa de Cristo,
