Architectural Patterns: A Method to Standardize and Accelerate the Solution Development By Rajesh Sisodia Background and Context In the client’s IT organization, enterprise architects formulate the IT strategy and architectural direction for a particular architectural focus area. Based on their direction the project teams implement s the architecture during the execution of the project. In between, the application engineering team supplies the standards, implementation guidelines and best practices to the project team. This is to enable the implementation of the architecture. The application engineering team needs an enabler in the form of patterns , which will connect the strategy document, reference architecture, or architectural building blocks that the EA team provides and the standards and implementation guidelines they create. Patterns act as a means to put these architectural building blocks into context. Problems Description The engagement was meant to solve the following challenges: Enrich the architectural reference library of the organization by identifying, prioritizing, cataloguing, defining, and publishing the architectural and design patterns that are specific to future state technology landscape of the client’s organization. Establish the link between the newly engineered patterns and the existing development standards to increase the consumability of the standards by the downstream targeted audience (such as project team, solution architects, and product engineer). Reduce the efforts involved in mentoring and direct engagement required to communicate the standards to the project team. Objectives The main objectives of this engagement were the following: Facilitate the transition to the go-forward model Create technology solution boundaries and relationships Standardize solution development and delivery
