Science and Math Seminar Series: Fall 2015 Sep 9, 2015 My life as a Pharmer: Monoclonal antibodies as novel therapeutics against infectious diseases and cancer Qiang “Shawn” Chen, Ph.D. Associate Professor, School of Life Sciences, Biodesign Institute, ASU Monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) are potential powerful therapeutics against various diseases. One of our research interests is in the design of novel mAbs, development new expression systems including plants for these molecules, and evaluation of their potential as therapeutics against infectious diseases and cancer. I’ll summarize why mAbs can be potent therapuetics, and then develop in detail our leading current effort to find a therapeutic strategy for treatment of Ebola virus (EBOV), West Nile Virus (WNV), Dengue virus (DENV), Chikungunya virus (CHIKV), and colorectal cancer.
