DEFINITION

• Semantic mapping is an adaptation of concept definition mapping but builds on students prior knowledge or schema.  While it draws on prior knowledge it recognizes important components and shows the relationships among the components.

• The framework of semantic mapping includes: the concept word (big idea), two or more category examples, and other examples (little ideas)

How to do Semantic Mapping?????

STEPS IN SEMANTIC MAPPING

• Firstly, identify the concept word (big idea) and then write the word as the central word, (e.g. Transportation).

• Second, make some categories of words that related with the central word, (e.g. land, air, and water). For mapping the words, you can make bubble or box.

• Finally, find out some words (little ideas) and then write the words that related with the word categories. For example: Land car, motorcycle, etc.

What We are Going to do????

Form a group in which each group consists of three students.

With your group, read the text carefully and then discuses with your group for filling in each table based on the text, for 15 minutes.

Page 11: SEmantik Mapping_ Rpp

Then, after 15 minutes you will be called one by one by the existing person to come in front of the class to fill the bubble. In this case, firstly I will call one student to come in front of the class, and then that student have to choose one student to come in front of the class to fill the bubble too, and soon.
