WORKPLACE CHARGING IMPACT - explained in these slides: Recently the Department of Energy's "Workplace Charging Challenge" survey of employers that offer workplace charging, revealed that: 1. Employees that are offered charging at work are 20 ;mes more likely to drive a Plugin
Electric Vehicle. 2. The survey also showed that 80% of these employees offered this as a benefit to retain
and aFract a talented modern workforce, by not charging their employees. According to the US Department of TransportaDon, Bureau of TransportaDon (2014) 1. Since 78% of commuters drive 20 miles or less to work, replenishing this amount of
electricity is consistent and equals the cost of a cup of coffee in the break-‐room. 2. This means that companies don't need to install $5000, higher powered, faster,
communica;ng, chargers. Many willing companies are gePng discouraged by these industry prac;ces and prices. Simple level 1 chargers or the lower powered Level 2, like the Telefonix PowerPostEVSE product line, is a simple, safe and prac;cal solu;on.

”EV”angelist’s Outreach Plan Teach and help your Exis;ng Customers
“Convincing your Employer to Install Charging at Work” Think about the best way to approach your employer. What might be your company’s mo;va;ons for installing workplace charging (WPC)? Some examples might be: • To green its image. • To aFract and retain highly skilled employees. • To meet greenhouse gas reduc;on goals. • The company’s peers or compe;tors have installed charging. • The CEO or other senior managers drive a plug-‐in electric vehicle (PEV). • To join a growing group of leading companies that have installed WPC • To help fleets convert to PEVs. • To help aFract visitors, such as in retail workplace sePngs. • Set up a presenta;on or event

WORKPLACE: Where to focus Based on calendar-‐year 2013 sales, the study found that:
1. 55 percent of electric vehicle buyers are between 36 and 55 years old 2. 21 percent have an average household income of $175,000 or more. 3. Addi;onal studies show that EV buyers tend to live in mul;-‐vehicle households,
which suggests that EVs are either used as a second car and or to replace the need for daily commutes via public transit.

Your decision to offer workplace charging can increase PEV awareness among current and poten;al employees. Consider organizing the ac;vi;es below to promote workplace charging. 1. Invite PEV-‐driving employees to give a presenta;on or webinar about their experience with PEVs, and encourage them to engage in discussion with fellow employees. 2. Place informa;onal posters in office common areas to raise employee awareness about your organiza;on’s workplace charging program. 3. Work with your organiza;on’s travel coordinator to encourage PEV rental for employee travel. Learn more about one Workplace Charging Challenge Partner’s Smart Mobility rental choices. 4. Work with your organiza;on’s fleet manager to deploy PEVs in your fleet. Connect with your local Clean Ci;es coali;on to learn more about adop;ng PEVs and other alterna;ve fuel vehicles. Check out DOE’s Alterna;ve Fuels Data Center for best prac;ces, case studies, cost calculators, interac;ve maps, customizable database searches, and mobile applica;ons to evaluate poten;al PEV usage in your fleet. 5. Work with your grounds manager to u;lize PEVs for your facility’s lawn maintenance needs. See the Clean Ci;es Guide to Alterna;ve Fuel and Advanced Technology Commercial Lawn Equipment for more informa;on. 6. Provide op;mally located reserved parking places for PEV-‐driving employees to use when they’re not parked at a charging sta;on as an added benefit for PEV drivers and an incen;ve to poten;al PEV drivers. Join the Workplace Charging Challenge The U.S. Department of Energy is invi;ng employers to advance the deployment of plug-‐in electric vehicles by signing the Workplace Charging Challenge Pledge, a commitment to providing employee charging. Learn more about the Challenge and how to join at electricvehicles.energy.gov. 7. Allow employees a few hours each month to par;cipate in a PEV-‐related learning opportunity and encourage them to share what they learned with coworkers. 8. Invite local PEV dealers to par;cipate in a Ride and Drive day. Use Advanced Energy’s Ride and Drive kit for ;ps on organizing the event, and find a local dealer by contac;ng your Clean Ci;es coali;on. 9. Hold a “Workplace Charging Tour” to demonstrate the ease and accessibility of PEV charging sta;ons and inform employees of your organiza;on’s charging procedures. 10. Include employee tes;monials and informa;on on the benefits of PEVs in your organiza;on’s newsleFer or other internal communica;ons materials. 11. Inform new employees about workplace charging procedures and policies at orienta;on. Keep employees engaged by communica;ng changes in policy in your organiza;on’s internal communica;ons materials. 12. If your organiza;on has a PEV fleet, develop a PEV car-‐ share program where employees can use vehicles for local trips. 13. As an employee benefit, offer employees a monthly allowance for purchasing or leasing a PEV. 14. Develop an online forum or other communica;on method that allows current PEV-‐driving employees to improve their charging experience and poten;al PEV drivers to learn more. 15. Encourage the crea;on of a “Green Team” that includes PEV-‐driving employees who are willing to help educate interested coworkers and promote workplace charging.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW • A typical U.S. electricity cost is $0.10/kWh. • The Chevy Volt goes about 40 miles with a 16.5 kWh baFery. • Therefore, 20 miles uses about 8.25 kWh. • The energy cost to recoup 20 miles is about 80 cents: 8.25 kWh x $0.10/kWh = $0.83

WORKPLACE CHARGING REALITY – Common Cent$!
It’s a benefit that aFracts and retains talent! If you have to charge consider a flat payroll deduc;on

WORKPLACE CHARGING REALITY
“An analysis by Plug In America suggests that the least expensive Level 1 chargers are the best use of company resources, because most employees won’t be moving their cars during the normal work day and a Level 1 charger can replenish most if not all EV baFeries in that ;me. An addi;onal considera;on is that if each EV has its own Level 1 unit, employees will not need to leave their work place to move their car during the day. Level 2 chargers are roughly twice as fast as Level 1 equipment, but that extra speed may be unnecessary during a typical workday”...

WORKPLACE CHARGING REALITY
Charging Behavior In 2012, SAE Interna;onal (Smart, 2012) published a report that looked into details of how EV owners charge their EVs. Ø The study found that 92% of EV owners charge a minimum of one ;me per day and 82% of the charging occurred at the owner’s home. Only 18% of the owners charge their EVs at public loca;ons, and these are mainly work locaDons with extended parking periods.
