Some people get excited about moving. l'm not one of them. I don't like
the boxes and the mess, and lfind it hard to get settled in a new place. 5oI can't imagine what 75-year-old Abram thought when God told him toleave his homeland and set out for a place he'd never seen.
I stand in wonder of faith so strong that it finds the Word of God
compelling with no evidence that the promises will come true. But in ourlong history as a people of God, God is forever waking people up or giving
them a vision of a different life, usually far from where they are.
So it is with our spiritual life as well. ln today's Gospel, Jesus leads
Peter, James, and John up a high mountain and into a vision of Jesus as
the glorious Son of God. Wherever they had been in their faith, this was a
radical call to move, to grow deeper, and to embrace the identity of theman they called Jesus.
Until that moment, Jesus was a compelling preacher and healer. On topof that mountain, he became the fulfillment of the Law and the Prophets(Moses and Elijah represent those pans of the Old Testament canon).
When Peter, James, and John heard the words 'tlisten to him" coming
from the cloud, they could no longer pretend this was an ordinaryreligious figure. They would never be the same, and the journey wouldlead them to the cross and beyond.
Are you being asked to move in your spiritual life? Where will that takeyou? Mary Katharin eDeeley [email protected]

de ar PAD Rf,
I'm luaing troublefinding a good place b prayl I can't get ta church euery
day. I lwue a notsy househol.d, and I can't pray at work. Any ideas?
The best place to pray is in solitude. But solitude in thiscase doesn't mean an isolated place; it is, rather, a state of theheart.
Many Christians can enter into a state of solitude on a
crowded train. I've talked with others who find solitudewhile sitting on a bench in a crowded shopping mall.
Flowever, to cultivate this interior state that opens a
Christian to heartfelt conversation with God, many of us
need to physically shut out distractions. fu Jesus advised, go
into your room-your secret place---close the door, and praythere. For some people, this "secret plzce" is a church orchapel. Many people pray before or after Mass. Somechurches have a special oratory or chapel for the Blessed
Sacrament. But, like you, many people find it difiicult to go to a
church or chapel every day, so some of them devote a special
corner of their home to prayer. This prayer corner usuallyhas a Bible, crucifix, statue, sacred picture, candle, or plant.
We can find solitude in the car, in a favorite nature spot,in the ga.rden, or on a morningjog. Once you start lookingfor it, solitude isn't as difficult to find as you'd expect,
because God is present in every place and in everymoment-so wherever we can find solitude, he will be there.
