2020 Enrolments Now Open

PRINCIPALS MESSAGE

Principals Message 22/08/2019

NAPLAN 2019 – a reason to celebrate! I am proud to advise you that our NAPLAN results across all areas of literacy and numeracy indicate learning growth and improvement. A greater number of Year 5 students, 81%, have made medium and high growth since their NAPLAN assessment in Year 3 2017. This achievement exceeds our 2019 Annual Implementation Plan target. ‘We are ready to learn’. My congratulations to the Year 5 students, their educators and families for working together to achieve a higher level of learning growth. Our NAPLAN Relative Gain exceeds the remarkable progress made in 2015, so we are so proud of our collective work and learning. New Enrolments This week we welcome Kai, Year 3 and Gemma, Year 6 to our school community. Kai and Gemma have relocated from Horsham and they are already proving to be great role models and fantastic class members. Attendance 2019 Please remember to call us if your child is unable to be at school. The school needs to follow the Child Safe Standards and confirm where children are each day. Thanks you to the families who remember to do this. Unless your child is unwell, they should be at school. If tiredness is an issue then please review bedtime, access to screens, sleepovers, fruit and veggie intake and daily active exercise. These positive steps will make a huge difference in your child’s wellbeing and energy. Our attendance data is not as positive as it should be. A number of children are missing a day of school each week, this is not appropriate. We need to build positive habits for learning, secondary school, working and community engagement. Foodbank Breakfast and Lunch Club Every 5 weeks we have over 300kg of food staples delivered to school, including ten boxes of apples, thanks to the wonderful team at Foodbank. Foodbank have now expanded their support to include lunch packs and hampers for families. Please contact us if you would like a hamper.

Michelle Wilson Principal

Hi, my name is Ms McKinley and I am super excited to be teaching in the Prep-One classroom at Sebastopol Primary School for the remainder of term 3 and term 4! To give you some idea of who l am l would like to share a little bit about myself. My favourite food is Vietnamese street food, though l am also partial to chocolate. I love a cup of tea and my favourite thing to do in my free time is to work in my garden. My favourite team to barrack for is the Essendon Bombers, mainly because my Mum and Dad follow them. My favourite book is a tricky one, as there are so many wonderful books to chose from. I think that the Faraway tree would have to be my all-time favourite. The place l like best is the beach, l love to swim in summer and watch the waves crashing on the beach in winter. I enjoy driving holidays, exploring different places and l think the Grampians are my favourite place to stay. My favourite colour is blue, l like all shades. My favourite subject to teach and learn about is Science, l love doing practical experiments like making slime and sherbet or reactions with bicarbonate of soda and vinegar. More than anything, l love spending time with my family, especially my two boys, Michael and Ryan and my daughter, Elise. I look forward to getting to know all students and their families at Sebastopol Primary School better over the coming weeks!

Welcome Mrs McKinley

Our Young Authors enjoyed their third and final workshop for 2019 at the Australian Catholic University ACU with 90 students from schools across the Central Highlands. This time they focused on writing in the Sports genre. Topics included reporting, commentating and working with an author who writes narratives based

on sports. My thanks to Hannah Sheeran for coordinations the program and leading a workshop at ACU last Friday. Our Young Authors know that writing can take many places in the world of tertiary study, work and community in the future. We would like to thank ACU for hosting this program for talented students.

National eSmart Week. Year 5/6 had a great time at the Sebastopol Library on Monday creating instructions for robots cars.
