At Greyhound Field The Greyhounds dropped their first home series of the season to West Texas A&M, but posted a 30-19 record at Greyhound Field in the previous two seasons. This year, Mitch Wolfe is leading the charge at home, batting .556, while Joe Huwer is right behind, with a .333 average. Inside the Series Eastern trails 18-25 in their series against Southwest- ern Oklahoma State, but has won six of the last 11 meet- ings. Last year, the Greyhounds split a four-game series at Greyhound field, with ENMU winning the first game of both doubleheaders. Luis Quiñones paced Eastern with a .571 batting aver- age with five runs scored, while Jereme Johnson hit .545. Kevin Thompson and current graduate assistant Ethan Wagner both batted .500 for the series. In the Lone Star Conference West Texas A&M currently leads the Lone Star Conference with a .414 batting average, fol- lowed by Cameron at .367. The Buffaloes Jess Coo- per leads the league with a .574 batting average. Angelo State’s pitching staff leads the conference with a 3.67 earned run average, while Texas A&M-Kingsville’s staff has struck out a LSC-high 113 batters. Head Coach Phil Clabaugh

and assistant football coach at WesternNewMexico University for four years. In1988, his first season, he ledWNMU to theRockyMountainAthletic ConferenceTour-nament title. He then guidedWestern to abetter record each of the next three years. His success at buildingWNMU intoa winning team helped him earn the jobof reviving Eastern’s baseball program.Now in his 19th year as a collegiate headcoach, he has a career record of 557-712-3(.431). He ranks 42nd in career victoriesamongactive coaches inNCAADivision II. Clabaugh has coached several All-Region players at ENMU:AndyGray, 1994; ShaneShallenberger, 1995; SteveMontoya, 1996;MikeDunstan,1997;andBryanSilva,1997.Six players have joined pro teams: GeoffErwin (P, Clarksville Coyotes, 1996), JohnArnold (C,Atlanta Braves, 1996), ChrisPrice (P/OF,ColoradoRockies,1997),GabeDeHoyos (P, Kansas City Royals, 2002),DallasMcMann (C,AmarilloDillas, 2003),Ian Thurman-Kelly (P, N.Y.Mets, 2004). Clabaugh earned a bachelor’s degree in english from Northwestern OklahomaState University in 1980. He received amaster ’s degree in Curriculum and In-struction from NW Oklahoma in 1990. Clabaugh and hiswife,Helen, reside inPortales. Their adult children are Sarah and Seth. Sarah has graduated from college andSethisarecentgraduateofENMU,whoplayedin the outfield and pitched for theHounds.

Head Coach Phil Clabaugh is enteringhis 20th year as the leader of the EasternNewMexico University baseball programand has had the squad in contention for theLone StarConference championship tourna-ment on the final day of the season for thelastthreeseasons,takingtheHounds’totheirfirst-ever appearance in the tournament dur-ing the 2009 season. He has beenwith theGreyhounds since baseball was revived prior to the 1992 season. His teams have battledeach season in the Lone Star Conference. In 2010, the Greyhounds continuedtheir trend of last at bat wins, plating thegame-winning run in their final at-bat, eighttimes. The Hounds picked up wins overnationally teams such as #11AbileneChris-tian and #22 NewMexico Highlands andrallied from a 10-2 seventh-inning deficitto defeat LSC powerhouse,Angelo State. The 2009 campaign, arguably was hisfinestwith theHounds, guiding theprogramto23LoneStarConferencevictoriesandtheprogram’sfirst-everberth in theLSCCham-pionship tournament. Included in the team’s28 overall wins were 12 victories in which the Houndsplatedthegame-winningrunintheirfi-nalatbatofthegame.JeremeJohnsonbecametheprogram’sfirstAllAmerican,joiningSethClabaughontwodifferentall-regionteams.Theduowas joinedbyFreddieCarmonaasFirstTeamAll-Lone Star Conference selections. in2008, theHoundsfinished26-26,andposted19winsintheLSC,narrowlymissingtheconferencetournament.Easternclosedtheseasonstrong,winningfiveoftheirlastsixcon-tests,includingafour-gamesweepatWestTex-asA&M.Midwaythroughtheseason,ENMUposted picked up a series win over eventual LSC champion, TexasA&M-Kingsville, scoringvictoriesinthreeofthefourmeetings.Bytheendoftheseason,Clabaugh’sGreyhoundshadvirtuallyrewrittentheoffensiverecordbooks. Clabaugh’s efforts at ENMU began inthe summer of 1991, as the first head coachsince thebaseballprogramwasdiscontinuedin 1975. During his first year, he oversawthe construction ofGreyhound Field, doingmuch of thework himself.The players alsohelped andgained a special appreciation fortheir first-year program and the new field. Greyhound Field gives Eastern a quality baseballfacility.Itfeaturessomeofthelargestoutfielddimensionsinthecollegegame,with362feettoleftfield,406feettocenterfield,and372feet torightfield.Clabaughand theGreyhounds replaced the infield dirt severalseasons ago and still maintain the facility. Clabaugh led his first ENMU team toa 20-31 record in 1992. The Hounds wonmore games each of the next four seasons,improving to 29-25 in 1995, then to 34-19 in 1996. Eastern was 25-21-1 in 2000. Clabaugh has compiled 461 victoriesduring his time at Eastern. His teams havefeatured a powerful offense and have battedat least .318 during 11 of 12 seasons since1995 and the school record of .344was setbytheGreyhoundsin2008.In2010,theteampostedanall-timebest.964fieldingpercentage.EasternturnedinasecondplacefinishintheLSCinthe1994season.TheHoundsremainedintheraceforthe1997titleandthe2000SouthDivisioncrownuntilthefinalweekoftheseason.
