SONIA’S SEA
CHANGE This week we said farewell to fundraiser extraordinaire Sonia
Daniels who is leaving us for sunny Queensland. Sonia has made
an outstanding contribution to our hospitals' fundraising activities
and events, helped establish the Better Foundation with our local
Council and partners, and delivered more cakes than we can
count. Thank you for everything you did for us!
For once she got to keep the goodies she was given, including
some suitably tropical flowers. Her
B2Hub colleagues chipped in for
permanent reminder of her time at
Blacktown - a pendant with a bee
(for the B2Hub), an S (for Sonia of
course) and a palm tree (for
Queensland). Good luck with your
Queensland adventure and we
hope it is all you could wish for -
beautiful one day, perfect the next!

IT’S A
MIRACLE! It will be the final Christmas in
the current Special Care Nursery
this year as the team gets ready
to move into their purpose-built
facility in 2019, so some Miracle
Babies took the opportunity to
drop in and say thank you.
Miracle Babies Foundation mum
Caroline Davies said, “The staff
literally hold a little piece of our
hearts in their hands every day…
and we will be forever grateful
for what they have done for us
and our children.”
Everyone celebrated with some
‘Thank U NICU’ treats, balloons
and a tour of the Special Care
Nursery.

SurgiNet Update
Surgical eMR Update for Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospitals | Dec 2018
SurgiNet is coming to Blacktown and Mount Druitt Blacktown and Mount Druitt hospitals
will introduce a new integrated
electronic medical record module called
SurgiNet in 2019.
SurgiNet is an innovative approach to
enhancing the patient-centred surgical
care at BMDH Perioperative Services.
The project involves effective planning
and redesign of service delivery to
enhance patient safety and quality of
services.
Patient services will be rescheduled to
ensure there is no impact on patient
safety.
What you need to know
SurgiNet will replace paper charts which
are currently used to manage, track and
schedule functions for operating
theatres. SurgiNet is part of eMR
PowerChart and will enable perioperative
staff to document and share information
across all areas of surgery.
This will help streamline surgical
workflows and integrate patient and
procedure information including:
Complex surgical procedure
scheduling (supported by Enterprise
Scheduling Management) for
operating theatres
Patient case documentation for pre-
operative, intra-operative and post-
operative functions including the Post
Anaesthetic Care Unit
Patient status and location tracking
throughout the surgical process
Supply and configuration of clinical
equipment for operating theatres
based on surgeon, procedure,
specialty and site-specific preference
cards.
Benefits for staff
A single source of clinical information
that is secure and current.
Integrated clinical workflow and
documentation for all areas of surgery
Scheduling visibility across Blacktown
and Mount Druitt.
New initiatives for pre-admission
As part of the changes, the patient
journey and eMR records commence in
Pre-Admission Clinic (PAC) allowing
greater visibility to the patient pre-
operative care plan.
Benefits for patients
Surgical procedure information will be
integrated into a single medical record
which supports patient pre- and post-
surgical care, anaesthesia and
medications management, and transfer
and discharge information.
Who is affected?
SurgiNet will be primarily used by the
perioperative team (especially anaethesia
and the anaesthetic record), surgical
nurses, clinical nurse consultants, nurses
and administrative staff in medical
imaging.
However, other nursing, allied health and
clinical administration staff may also view
information within the system.
Training
An extensive training program will be
implemented to ensure staff receive
information and support before, during
and following implementation of the new
system.
