Welcome to Scribble’s first Spring Rights Guide. We’re a new picture-book imprint, publishing around eight books a year in Australia and the UK. Our focus is on beautiful illustration, design, and production, and on showcasing diverse and engaging storytelling for the little people in our lives.

We have a very exciting twelve months of publishing coming up. In April, we publish the irrepressible I Am Doodle Cat, about a bright-red feline with a very big heart. In November, we’ll be publishing the second book from the bestselling team of Davina Bell and Allison Colpoys, Under the Love Umbrella, which is a gorgeous celebration of the love of a parent for their child. And we’re super-excited to be launching the picture-book career of international award-winning illustrator Daniel Gray. You’re going to love meeting his Grandma Z.

I Am Doodle Cat is a cheerful children’s book here to encourage imagination, celebration of the things you love, and finding the magic in silliness. Written by Kat Patrick, with delightful illustrations by Lauren Marriott, this book shows a tomato-red Doodle Cat rejoicing in everyday pleasures such as swimming in the ocean, wearing a favourite onesie, and playing guitar. Whatever your age, I Am Doodle Cat reminds you of the universe’s splendidness, and above all, to remember to love YOU!

Kat Patrick recently realised she never actually grew up, and so has been trying to make a living as a writer ever since. This is Kat’s first children’s book after finding a kindred spirit in Lauren.

Lauren Marriott is, above all other things, a doodler. There was never any questioning her career path. Since graduating with a Bachelor of Design, majoring in Illustration, she has made a successful living of doodling. Endlessly.

A unique book for young and old that celebrates inspirational women from around the world and across generations. You will recognise some and be delighted to meet others.

Amazing Babes was originally written as a gift from a mother to her son. It introduces women such as Kathleen Hanna, lead singer from 1990s seminal punk-rock act Bikini Kill; Aung San Suu Kyi, Burma’s pro-democracy leader; and Malala Yousafzai, a passionate advocate of worldwide access to education. All these women had the ideas, determination, and creativity to bring about change in the world, and in learning about their stories we honour their achievements.

author Eliza Sarlosillustrator Grace Lee

Amazing Babes‘One cannot read this book for thefirsttimewithoutafewtinglesdown the spine. This is an important and inspiring book and will appeal to those interested in current affairs, history and books which don’t fall back on gender stereotypes. It begs to be read and re-read as the audience grows and matures. This is a book for school libraries, for bedrooms and for coffee tables everywhere.’ —Children’s Books Daily
