There have been more than 1,600 deaths

4,000,000 people have been rendered homeless

8,000,000 people have been identified as needing urgent assistance and medical care

Up to 20,000,000 people have been affected by the floods

Up to 3,500,000 children are in danger of contracting water and insect borne diseases

The floods have ruined over 1,600,00 acres of crops and 200,000 livestock have died

People have skill, aptitude and potential to run and grow their businesses to improve and sustain their livelihood

Community at grass root level have knowledge about basic banking procedures

Community is mobilized, organized and have knowledge for effective utilization of money

People in general have been gender sensitized through various interventions and female have more access to information, enhanced mobility and involvement in livelihood activities

Female cooperatives (clusters) have been formed successfully and their link with local market has been established for value chain development

People have established their businesses at small scale and now there is demand for more capital to expand their business to ensure their livelihood sustainable

ChallengesChallenges

Disaster in future is a major challenge to smoothly running any project in riverside or flood affected areas

People are used to having financial assistance in terms of grants therefore there is potential threat that they might not be willing to repay the financial assistance received in form of loan(s) / credit

Local money lenders can also be hurdle to effectively launch any financing based on Islamic mode

Market capturing by conventional micro finance organizations might result in attitudinal change of people mindset
