DESIGN STRUCTUREEnventys is a design consultancy located in the downtown area of Charlotte, NC. During my internship I worked alongside professional industrial designers. We came together weekly to discuss project goals and client concerns. We bounced new ideas off each other during the concept development phases, but each member was responsible for their own designated tasks.

45Sally Beauty supply stores, much smaller than Target mass retail locations, presents a much smaller plan-o-

gram for not only displaying brushes and hair accessories, but also for displaying advertising and marketing

materials that may need to support a new product. Their brushes are displayed very well in a primarily stand

up fashion, while their clips, due to the lack of space, are displayed on long hanging displays within the aisle.

43

Larger than most, Target’s beauty and hair accessory section really stands out. Their plan-o-gram presents a

clear and distinct progression of its products. The Bands section, features head bands and hair ties. Then

Quick Clips which includes a number of hair clip styles, sizes and colors. Sophisticated Styles showcasing

various head scarves and head wraps. The Beautiful Brushes section has a variety of brush styles and combs.43

Ulta Beauty, a major supplier of bath and body, hair care, fragrance and make up products, similar to target

has a substantial section of their plan-o-gram devoted to combs, brushes, clips and hair accessories. Like

most their products are hung from racks and clips featured on end caps. One unique aspect of Ulta’s design

are the bins that they have that allow brushes to jump out at the customer and clips to be mass stored.

A hair clip has a base plate (1, 101) havin

g comb-tooth-shaped lugs (4, 104), and also has a hair re

tainer (2, 102)

connected to the base plate. The hair retainer h

as one end engageable with and disengageable from one end of base

plate. The lugs (4, 104) are effective to render th

e hair clip more retentive

on the user's hair. The hair re

tainer (2, 102) can

swing or slide relative

to the base plate (1, 101) so as to expose and use the comb-tooth-shaped lugs (4, 104) as a hair

brush or as a comb, with the hair re

tainer then servin

g as a handgrip.

A compact hair brush comprises a fixing body, an elastic fixing plate, an elastic means and a cover body. The fixing body

is coupled with the cover body which is freely opened and closed by a hinge. The elastic fixing plate on which a plurality

of bristles is fixedly disposed is elastically fixed to the fixing body and can be protruded from the fixing body by the elastic

means. The elastic fixing plate can be protruded from the fixing body by opening the cover body. When using the

hairbrush, the bristles are lined up by only opening the cover body. Therefore, a user can easily use and carry the

hairbrush.
