Scientific Poster DayScientific Poster Day

General Objective

The annual holding of the Scientific Poster Day is aimed at encouraging researchers to invest their scientific expertise and share their experience, research results and accomplishments with their colleagues, as well as to encourage them to pursue their research interests, scientific ambitions and aspirations.

Specific Goals

1. Provide a platform for researchers to present their ongoing research, as well as published or papers accepted for publication at a national level.

2. Encourage the pursuit of joint research projects across scientific departments and faculties, and facilitate their participation in the scientific poster day.

3. Encourage researchers to achieve high quality research outputs through their distinguished research accomplishments, and granting them incentive awards for top-ranking posters.

4. Ensure active involvement of academic community’s participation by sharing their opinion and views concerning research presented by their colleagues for improving the quality of research productivity and encouraging joint research activity.

5. Encourage Teaching Assistants to pursue scientific research activity.

6. Encourage graduate students to present their research at national forums.

7. Develop new research concepts and ideas through the periodic holding of seminars and symposia on research topics relevant to scientific and community work.

ParticipantsFollowing categories of researchers are eligible to participate in the Scientific Poster Day events:

1. Faculty members

2. Teaching Assistants

3. Graduate Students

Conditions

1.The subject of the scientific poster should be based on the researcher’s project(s) during the last two years.

2.The research should be original and of high quality.

3.The poster should briefly describe all elements of the scientific research as follows: 3.1 Research Title 3.2 Abstract 3.3 Objective 3.4 Research Methodology (Sample, Research Instrument, Procedures,

4. Each researcher may participate with a maximum of two research presentations as posters.

5. The poster presentation should be new, and not previously displayed at any other scientific competition/contest.

6. The participating research must be ongoing, or published, or accepted for publication.

7. The research must not be part of a PhD dissertation.

8. Joint programs at the college of Graduate Studies should include its research under the faculty of the supervising professor.

9. The PI must be from Kuwait University.

10. Researchers may refer to RS poster design samples in Arabic and English on the website: www.ovpr.ku.edu.kw

Posters Submission

The posters content should be submitted/transmitted directly through the link provided at RS website, ensuring that all conditions have been met.

Posters Evaluation Mechanism

1. Evaluation is based on standard criteria stated in the Evaluation Form. The Researcher must be present at the Poster Day event to give a brief description of the displayed research.

2. The research should preferably be relevant to Kuwait and in keeping with the nature of the relevant scientific department.

3. In case one of the Evaluation Committee members or any of his/her relative participates in the Poster Day, then the poster must be evaluated by other members of the committee.

4. The Poster reviewer should give a formal declaration and undertaking that he/she is not the PI, Co-I in any of the research work displayed that he/she is evaluating.

5. The committees results in choosing the winning poster are confidential and cannot be viewed.

Awards

1.Monetary awards are given as incentives to the researchers whose posters win the top three positions in the following awards categories: 1.1 Faculty Members: KD 1000/- earmarked for the first three posters as follows: KD 500/- for the poster that ranks first, KD 300/- for the poster ranking second,

KD 200/- for the poster achieving third slot 1.2 Teaching Assistants: KD 800/- allocated for the first three winning posters as follows: KD 350/- for the poster in first place, KD 250/- for the poster in second place, KD 200/for the poster in third place, 1.3 Graduate Students: KD 600/- allocated for the first three winning posters as follows: KD 250/- for the Poster in first place, KD 200/- for Poster in second place, KD 150/- for Poster in third place

2. Certificates of Appreciation are awarded to researchers whose posters achieve the top three positions in each awards category.

3. Names of Poster Winners in all awards categories are announced, and the abstracts of their award-wining research is displayed on the RS website.

Poster Day Events

1. Seminars on subjects relevant to scientific research and community service in Kuwait.

2. Display of research services and facilities across all faculties.

3. Winners of each faculty are awarded honorary shields.

Is the poster designed in an organized and appealing way? Are colors, fonts, order used in an appropriate way? Are charts and graphs done in a correct and appropriate way? Are there any spelling or grammar errors?

IntroductionIs the introduction clear and easy to read? Does it lead to the main idea of the project?

AimsAre aims, purposes and objectives clearly specified? Is the subject presented clearly to the reader?

MethodIs the research methodology clearly presented and explained? Is it appropriate for the research project?

Project Progress

Is the research progressing smoothly and reasonably from beginning to end?

Outcome

Does the poster present the research outcome? Is it clearly presented? Is the outcome related to research objectives ? Is it presented appropriately (using relevant tables, graphs, etc.)?

ConclusionDoes the poster outline the research impact/conclusion/ discussion of the study? Does it conform to research outcome?
