School Uniforms: Wear them or not?

Pros

• Save money

• Save time

• Prevent judgment somewhat

• Schools can easily identify own students

• Prevents distraction from learning

Cons

• Price

• No use outside of school

• Suppress individuality

• Concerns the safety of children (how do parents identify their own child?)

• No self expression

Better for Parents

Uniforms may be better for parents but not necessarily for students.

Parents like them because they are easier to maintain and not a hassle.

Don’t have to keep up on latest trends as much

Not Better for Students

As a student who wore one for nine years I see why people have such strong opinions about them.

We don’t get to express ourselves and it’s being forced upon us.

We still want the latest trends we just don’t wear them at school.

Costs

Uniforms range anywhere from the price of normal clothes and up.

People get the idea that uniforms save you money but they don’t.

You still have to buy normal clothes to wear outside of school while uniforms tend to be pretty expensive.

Academics

People believe that students who wear uniforms are more likely to do better because of the structure and less focus on wardrobe.

But not wearing uniforms shapes the individuality and creativity of today while still educating.

Behavior

Some say that schools who require uniforms have less behavioral issues because of the environment.

Although public schools with no uniform do appear to have a more violent type of environment
