KGFF opened up new opportunities for the much awaited cultural exchange to take place between Odisha and the world.

The 4th Edition of Kalinga Global Film Festival was kicked off today, organised by School of Film and Media Sciences, KIIT Deemed to Be University. Professor H. S Khatua, CEO School of Film and Media Sciences in a conversation with Urvy @Ksmc and Ankita @Ksmc gave an insight into the 5 day festival.

The Kalinga Global Film Festival is a relatively new film festival, where do you see it in the next five years?

In KIIT University everything we start as a small initiative which eventually grows into something bigger. There will definitely be growth as we are planning to expand even further for the next edition, in which international delegates, film makers and film students will be invited. We will also dedicate a special category for Odia films.

A Student Film Competitive category has been added to KGFF, how has the response been?

Initially the festival only held screenings of films. This year we have added a competition, for which we have received around 50 films, which is a big number to start with.

What message do you have for the filmmakers of tomorrow?

Young film makers should focus more on content rather than technical jargon, especially now since technical advancements are many in the digital age. Secondly, as a film maker, it is important to be true to themselves and then their work.

Be true to yourself first, then to the craft: Prof H S Khatua

Chit-Chat

“I am very excited but I am also under pressure. We have been working for last one week and this has been very hectic. There are lots of things and elements that goes into a film festival and we did not have a lot of time to organize. We just went with the flow and this is what you see today. With the minimum human resources, we tried to make it better than the last one. All I expected was watch movies, but due to management work I couldn’t watch it.”

GANESWARA MOHAPATRAFACULTY OF FILM AND MEDIA SCIENCES

“I am really excited. I have a very long list of expectations. One of it is, it will give an ample of benefit to the cine viewers, cine fraternity in Odisha,

students of our university and all those people who are involved in film art and film aesthetic. It is a historic day for the film faculty as we are organizing the film festival for the first time and it is making a good progress with time.”
