Natalia De Andrade Student of the Month-March 2017

School of Business UPDATE

Qeashaunda Johnson: Drs. Vaughn and

Miles Outstanding Business Student Award

Whitnee Cheek: Cheryl Joy Hobday

McElheney Business Award

Natalia De Andrade is a Sigma Beta Delta Business Honor Society inductee, a member of the Interna-tional Student Club, the Student Ath-lete Advisory Council, the Dean’s List and the President’s List. She was also a member of both the Chowan University Tennis team and the Cross Country team. Ms. De Andrade comes from Bra-zil and, though missing her native country’s culture, food, and people, has acclimated herself well to the very different environment of Murfreesboro, North Carolina. Grow-ing up, she lived only a short dis-tance from her grandparents’ home on the Brazilian beach. In Brazil school classes run from 7:15 am to 1:00 pm. Everyone takes the same classes and there is no school lunch. Afternoons were spent doing homework and chores; howev-er, for three months, Natalia took on the additional responsibility of being the caregiver for an older brother who had an unfortunate motorcycle accident.

While in high school, Natalia de-cided that she would like to pursue her education in the United States and continue her athletic activities Her parents hired a college search company in Brazil to find the right match for her. We are fortunate that that company was familiar with, and recommended, Chowan University!

At Chowan, Natalia has learned to cook, which she enjoys (although she hates doing the dishes after-wards.) She also likes watching TV and spending time in the library. She offers this advice to underclassmen: “It may sound cheesy but I would advise they take advantage of the library. There are many resources and books that can only be found if you go there.”

Ms. De Andrade plans to gradu-ate in May, 2018. Undoubtedly, she will continue to excel and achieve her dreams.

Connor Arcobasso Student of the Month-April 2017

Volume 26 Issue 4

Connor Arcobasso is from Jeffer-son City, the capital city of Missouri, located in the heart of state. Before arriving at Chowan, he graduated from Jefferson City High School, and played baseball at Maple Woods Community College. Connor is ma-joring in Business Administration with a concentration in Management and a minor in Marketing. He partic-ularly enjoys marketing classes, as he believes marketing allows him to create and think outside the box. Connor plans to use those strengths as he joins the business world. Connor came to Chowan for the fall semester 2015. He was instru-mental in assisting the baseball team in winning the conference championship in 2016 and 2017. He is the starting Center Fielder for the Chowan Hawks. Connor excels in academics as well; he is a member of Phi Gamma Mu, the International Honor Society in Social Sciences.

Connor believes the best things about Chowan are the valuable rela-tionships with new friends and peers. He says coming to Chowan has been a great decision and has exceeded his expectations, espe-cially with small class sizes and the personal relationships among stu-dents and professors. Connor rec-ommends focusing on relationships with the people you meet. He chal-lenges others to find a way to make a difference.

Connor will complete his studies at Chowan in December 2017. He is currently looking at several oppor-tunities, including playing profes-sional baseball in some venue or working in a sales or marketing posi-tion. He hopes to live in California, perhaps also pursuing a career in music as an independent artist. Congratulations Connor on your selection as the School of Business Student of the Month for April. Best wishes for continued success.
