SCHOOL NEWS Year 12 at Bell House
On Monday 11th and Tuesday 12th June
2018, a group of four Year 12 art students
were invited to take part in a really exciting
sculpture project at Bell House, Dulwich
Village. The project was organised by Bruce
Ingram, an artist teacher at Dulwich College,
and was designed as a collaborative project;
students were invited to engage with,
transform and modify his work in the gallery
space.
Students from eight different local schools
participated, which was a great learning
experience. The students were introduced to
different materials and techniques and
worked together to curate the exhibition,
which they found both challenging and
exciting. The project has given them a real
insight into how to set up an exhibition and
given them the freedom to experiment with
materials and communicate and collaborate
with others. They were also very excited
about the free lunch at Dulwich College!

THEME & WORD OF THE WEEK
Actions Speak Louder Than Words –
‘The great aim of education is not
knowledge but action.’
Subterranean
Definition: Existing, occurring or done
under the Earth’s surface.
Year 9 Boys’ Football
South London Champions 2017/18
Congratulation to our Year 9 boys’ football team
beating Harris Boys East Dulwich Academy in the
South London Cup Final.
The boys fought hard throughout the match and
after a 2-0 bad start they came back to 2-2 in the
2nd half. Both goals coming from Imani; one of them
a stunning free kick from outside the box. The
game went into extra-time and then went to the
dreaded penalty shoot out which ended up securing
the win for Kingsdale.
What a great achievement for the boys - winning
the South-London Cup 3 years in a row!
Girls’ Under-13s Kwik Cricket
On 11th June, our Year 7 and 8 girls’ cricket teams
travelled to Sydenham High School’s Sports Ground
for two Under-13s Kwik Cricket matches. Both teams
played very well and were captained by Jade
Humphrey-Gaskin and Chaiyla Norville-Whyms.
Well done girls!
Year 9 Language Speaking Exams
Students in Year
9 studying French,
German or Spanish
will be taking part
in mock speaking
exams over the next
few weeks in order to help them prepare for the demands
of the GCSE specification. Pupils have been preparing for
this in lessons. Please do encourage your child at home to
practise using their speaking booklet.
Year 12 Theatre Trip
A collection of Year 12 English Literature students
visited the Nuffield Theatre in Southampton to see
a performance of Tennessee Williams' seminal play
'A Streetcar Named Desire'.
The performance helped capture the tumultuous,
steamy atmosphere of the play set in 1940s New
Orleans and encouraged debate about the depiction
of the characters. The sophisticated and often
impassioned opinions of the students underline their
engagement with Williams' play and we look forward
to reading their responses in the upcoming exams
as informed by this invaluable experience. A special
thank you to the parent of one of our Year 12
cohort who brought this performance to the
department's attention!
Accelerated Reader Programme
Year 7 students have access to the Accelerated Reader
programme and are encouraged to log any books they
have read on this online programme and gain reward
points! The web link is
https://ukhosted71.renlearn.co.uk/1917389/
Students have been provided with their usernames and
passwords to access this system from home as well.
In case of any difficulties in accessing the system,
please contact Mrs Chaudhary via email

House News
The Honeypot Charity
Earlier this year we gave a
few case studies from the
House Charities we support
as a school.
This week we would like to shine the light on
amazing work done by the Honeypot Charity
supported by Albatross House. This year they
have been nominated as Charity of the Year.
Here is the reason why:
Did you realise, somewhere near you, there is
a child not out playing with friends or getting
ready for a summer holiday? They are not at
the swimming pool or the park - not being a
kid. Why? Because they are cooking, cleaning,
shopping, helping a less able family member
dress, bathe or eat. For so many children
this is the reality of childhood.
Since 1996, the Honeypot Children’s Charity
have been working to enhance the lives of
young carers and vulnerable children aged
5-12 by providing regular respite breaks at
one of their two Honeypot Houses, and on-
going outreach support through the Honeypot
Playbus, which visits children in their local
communities up to three times a year.
Many of the children Honeypot support are
young carers, looking after a chronically ill or
physically disabled relative and taking on
adult responsibility on a daily basis. Honeypot
makes sure these children have a break from
demanding and stressful responsibilities at
home and provide a safe, nurturing
environment where children at risk can
develop to their full potential.
If you want to find out more about the work
of the Honeypot Charity, please visit

Thanks for your ongoing support!
