The S.V.P.T.’s SARASWATI VIDYALAYA HIGH SCHOOL & JR.COLLEGE OF SCIENCE, was founded by Saraswati Vidya PrasarakTrust on 1st June 1981 at Namdeowadi, Thane. The present school build-ing was inaugurated by the Hon’ble late Shri. Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma(the then Vice President of India) on 1st October 1991.

ACHIEVEMENTS

Our school has traversed a long distance, moving ahead with innovativeideas and a zest to leave its imprint on the academic field. We strive tobring out strong academic results without compromising on our students’co-curricular and sports activities. The school is proud of its outstandingresult at H.S.C. level and cent percent result and merit holders at S.S.C.level.

THE CURRICULUM

The school is affiliated to the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary andHigher Secondary Education.

LANGUAGE

The medium of instruction is English. Marathi, our regional language isa compulsory subject from Std III to Std X and Hindi is a compulsorysubject from Std III to Std. VII.

The options for the third language offered from Std. VIII to Std X is asfollows :

1. Hindi 100 marks2. Sanskrit 100 marks3. Hindi / French 50/50 marks

100 marks Sanskrit is offered only to the students who secure B1Grade and above in English & Marathi in - Std VII in both semesters I &II. 50 marks French can be offered only to those students whosecure Grade B2 and above in English.

FINE ARTS

Craft, Music, Art, Painting and Home Science are creative expressionswhich help latent talents surface. Hence these subjects are incorporatedin the curriculum.PHYSICAL EDUCATION

We follow the dictum “A healthy body nurtures a healthy mind.” Hencestress is laid on physical education. Ample opportunities for indoor andoutdoor games are provided. Examinations for Physical Education areconducted during the academic year.SCOUT & GUIDEScout & Guide is included in the curriculum as it teaches students to beself sufficient, well-behaved and well disciplined. Camps for the studentsare compulsory and are a part of the curriculum, during which time testsare conducted.

THE LIBRARYThe School has an extensive library. The library is open on all workingdays from 10 am to 6 pm and on Saturdays from 10 am to 1.30 pm toenable the students to have access to various books, periodicals andnewspapers.

DIGITAL LEARNINGThe school has adopted Digital Learning programme to enrich and enhancethe teaching learning process under the brand name 'SARASVI DIGISMART'. Touch screen smart boards have been newly installed in eachclassroom for same.

CCTV

The classrooms and entire school premises is under CCTV surveillance.

EXCURSIONS, FIELD TRIPS AND TOURSTo enrich the school curriculum field trips and excursions are planned forthe students throughout the year. These trips are compulsory for all students.Outstation educational tours are also planned for the students.

LABORATORIESStudents from Std V onwards perform experiments in well-equipped andmodernized laboratories under the supervision of teachers and labassistants.

COMPUTER LABSKeeping pace with the technological advancement, the school has a well-equipped, air - conditioned computer lab. A seperate state of art computerlab caters to the need of the vocational stream of H.S.C. students.Any kind of damage caused by the student in the computer lab must bereplaced / reimbursed by the student.

PERSONAL COUNSELLINGStudents with learning disabilities are referred to the counsellor. Closemonitoring and timely guidance is provided to the students, by the counsellorand staff.An authentic certificate from Sion Hospital is required to establishthe dyslexic condition of a student to evaluate his / her academicprogress.

Each of these houses havetheir office bearers who plan and organise school programmes and helpmaintain discipline.THE SCHOOL MAGAZINE“SARASVI”, the school magazine is a showcase reflecting the creativetalents, skills and achievements of the students.RULES AND REGULATIONSADMISSION AND WITHDRAWLS1. The school authority reserves the right to select the candidate. The

decision of the institution is final and no communication in this matterwill be entertained.

2. On admission, a valid birth certificate in support of the date of birthas entered in the admission form is to be submitted along with aleaving certificate from the school last attended. The admission ofstudents from unrecognised schools is subject to departmentalconsent.

3. Fees once paid are not refundable or transferable.4. School Leaving Certificate shall not be issued unless all school

dues are paid and books / articles belonging to the school arereturned.Leaving Certificate will be issued only two days after thereceipt of the application for the same.

5. The Principal reserves the right to suspend any student if his / herbehaviour is found unsatisfactory.

RULES AND DISCIPLINEEvery student should endeavour to keep up the high standard and goodname of the school.1. Students are answerable to the school authorities for their conduct

both in and outside the school. Hence, misbehaviour in school andoutside is a just case for dismissal.

2. Any kind of damage caused to the school property must be replacedby the student.

3. Student must speak only in English in the school if found otherwise,fine of Rs. 10/- will be imposed.

4. The school periodically sends notices in the school calendar.Parents are requested to take note of the same.

5. Children suffering from any infectious disease shall not be allowedto attend the school. A doctor’s fitness certificate permitting thestudent to attend the school thereafter is essential.

6. Parents/guardians are not allowed to meet their children or teachingstaff during school hours or examinations.

7. All students must wear the prescribed school and P.T. uniforms asper instruction. No deviation from the said pattern is permitted.

8. Great stress is laid on personal hygiene and cleanliness. Girls andboys are not permitted to have fancy haircuts. Hair should notcover the student's fore head. Girls should wear a black hairbandand girls with long hair should have two plaits tied with black ribbons.Boys should adopt the 'Army cut' nails must be cut regularly. Afine of Rs. 10/- will be imposed if any of these instructions are notobserved. (For Jr. College a fine of Rs. 50/- will be imposed)

9. Wearing a watch or any form of jewellery or accessories isstrictly prohibited. Carrying a mobile phone to school is alsostrictly prohibited. If found, the student will be fined Rs.500/-for the same. The mobile will be handed over to theparent only thereafter.

10. Students are specially instructed not to buy food stuff or drinksfrom street vendors. The school has made provision for the sameat their inhouse canteen.

11. If a student comes late thrice in a month he/she will not be allowedto attend the school. The school gate will be closed at 7.00 a.m.(Morning shift) and 12.30 p.m. (Afternoon shift).

12. Wearing of School ID everyday is compulsory. If lost, it should beimmediately reported to the class teachers for the new one.

ABSENCE AND LEAVE1. Application for leave/absence for one or two days must be written

by the parent in the school diary (leave/record page18) and priorpermission of the Class Teacher & Co-ordinator must be obtained.

2. Parents must obtain prior written permission from the Principal forthree or more days leave/absence. Strict action will be taken forabsence/leave without prior written permission.

3. The school authorites must be informed immediately if a pupil is toremain absent due to some emergency/illness & on resuming schoolthe reason for his/her absence must be entered in the school diary( leave/absence record page17) by the parent and signature of theClass Teacher/Co-ordinator/Principal must be obtained. Absencedue to illness must be supported with a medical certificate.

4. No half day leave will be granted to the students. However duringan emergency only the parents will be allowed to take their wardhome after obtaining written permission from the Principal.

5. Attendance on the re-opening day, last working day and on 15thAug. & 26th Jan. is compulsory, failing which 1 percent mark willbe deducted from the last conducted exam.

LIBRARY RULES1. The library shall remain open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on all working

days.2. Silence should be maintained at all times.

3. Students are expected to behave in a responsible manner in thelibrary and observe all the library rules. Students found persistentlymisbehaving shall not be allowed the use of library facilities.

4. Bags, satchels, etc. must not be brought into the library. They shouldbe left in the class-room.

5. The due date is stamped in the book issued as a reminder to thestudents to return the book on time.

6. Readers are responsible for all books issued in their names. Bookslost, damaged or not returned in time shall have to be paid for alongwith the fine due. If the book is lost by a student, he has either toreplace the book or pay the current MRP of the book. Fines mayalso be levied for overdue books at the rate of two rupee per dayafter 7 days.

EVALUATION - (For Std. I to Std. VIII)The school follows the Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE)programme laid down by the Maharashtra State Education Boardto evaluate the progress of the students throughout the year.

EXAMINATIONS AND PROMOTIONS (For Std. IX & XI)

1. Unit Tests and Semester Examinations are conducted duringthe year. The results of the same are handed over to the parentsat the end of each exam.

2. Strict action will be taken by the school authorities against studentsresorting to unfair means during examinations. 5 marks will bededucted from the respective subject.

3. A student remaining absent for an examination on account of illness,sports etc. will have to appear for a re-exam.

A student who fails twice in the same class will be given the LeavingCertificate.

THE PARENT - TEACHER CONTACTOne of the school’s objectives is the promotion of a closer relationshipbetween home and school. The planned social and cultural activities ofthe school, fosters a harmonious background for the social growth of thestudents. The school always seeks the co-operation and help of parentsin implementing the rules and regulations and successfully carrying outthe school programmes.Parents are requested not to give gifts in any form to any member of theschool staff.
