YEAR 1 Hello families—this Wednesday Year 1 students will have their class photographs taken from 9am. We ask your child to wear the EHSS shirt and shorts or skorts for their photographs please, as well as their best smiles! Also would you please check uniforms and all items of clothing are named prior to swimming days so we can help the children keep their personal items safe. We are always so appreciative of your efforts, thank you.

Year 1 Students of the Week YEAR 2 Just a reminder to wear your school shirt and shorts tomorrow for your class photo. This term, Year 2 have had their health lessons delivered in Japanese. Ask your child to talk about the school rules in Japanese.

YEAR 3 In Maths, the Year 3’s have been working very hard on problem solving with Miss Abbott and are beginning to use their times tables to work out multistep problems. Our new English unit will begin this week where we will be learning how to write our own short stories. Just a quick reminder to return all excursion permission notes and payment to the classroom teacher. Also, Parent Teacher interviews will be held on Tuesday 21st March in the library. Have you arranged a time to meet with your child’s teacher?

YEAR 4 Your child should be giving you a letter regarding parent interviews for next week. Please return with your preferred times ASAP so you can get your preference. Some time slots fill very quickly. Thanks to those parents who have volunteered to support our Sustainable Living Kitchen Garden.

YEAR 5 Welcome to Week 7 of Term 1. We have so much great learning happening across all curriculum areas and students overall engagement with the content is outstanding. At the end of Term 1 Edge Hill State School will be conducting student progress interviews. Interviews are highly recommended as they allow parents the opportunity to receive information about their child’s progress and ask about any concerns. Information about individual class parent interviews will be going out in the next few weeks. Congratulations to all students who have been working super hard to learn your times tables and increase your overall speed. Well done to 5B for winning the Times Table Challenge trophy in Week 6.

Commbank School Banking program is

available at your school Ensure your child starts two great journeys

at once. For more than 85 years, the School Banking program has been teaching Australian children about the value of

money and smart saving as well as the rewards they can bring. It's also a great

fundraising activity, as Commbank offers your school commission for your child's first School Banking deposit as well as

deposits made as a part of the program.

Sports News

A focus across the school in Japanese this year is the introduction of Japanese hiragana script. Children in all year levels are learning about Japanese writing systems. To support the learning of Japanese script at home, there are many free and affordable apps available. Our App of the Week is called “Hiragana Memory Hint – English Version”. It can be loaded free of charge across a range of devices. This is its App Store Icon: Throughout 2017, we will host a number of visiting study tour groups at Edge Hill. Two of our groups will require homestay accommodation with EHSS families in August. In the past, our families have found that hosting students provides great opportunities for their whole family to share in a cultural exchange. Many of our previous homestay families have forged lasting friendships with the visiting students. Homestay is also a highlight of our school study tour program when we escort students to Japan. Hosting a student in your home is a great way to share in the study tour experience. If your child travelled on the 2016 study tour or is interested in joining the 2018 study tour, please consider opening your home to visiting students if you are able to. If you would like to assist us by offering to become a host family in August 2017, please contact me on [email protected] Thank you to the families who have already contacted me to register their interest. I will be in touch early in Term 2.
