SCHOLARSHIPS SPECIFICALLY FOR RJ REYNOLDS HS STUDENTS

MOUNTJOY SCHOLARSHIP Criteria: To receive consideration applicant must demonstrate evidence of scholarship in both course selection and grades with a ranking in the top 15% of the class, financial need as shown by completing the financial statement, leadership in school or community activities Award: $1,000 scholarship non-renewable Deadline: April 16, 2018 Contact: Application available in RJR Guidance office RJR PTSA – TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE Criteria: Submit 250-500 words answering the question: How has the RJ Reynolds community - teachers, staff, parent volunteers and/or other students - positively affected your high school experience? REYNOLDS HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1980 SCHOLARSHIP Criteria: Submit 250-500 words answering the question: How will this scholarship impact your life and how do you see yourself giving back to the community in 5 years? You must have at least a 2.4 unweighted GPA and submit a financial statement indicating need Award: $600 to a full-time student at a Community or Technical College, renewable for 2nd semester upon proof of B average Deadline: April 27, 2018 Contact: Application packet available in RJR Guidance office

MARY TAYLOR WALSH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Criteria: Attending UNC Chapel Hill, high academic standards in top 15% of class, strong character and leadership skills, school and community service involvement, demonstrate resiliency and strength of character to over come the challenges of life. ZACK H. BACON, IV SCHOLARSHIP Criteria: To receive consideration, applicants must, be graduating high school seniors at R.J. Reynolds High School, demonstrate resiliency and strength of character to overcome the challenges of life with integrity, optimism, and a strong sense of humor, demonstrate dedication to athletics, demonstrate academic achievement, contribute to the R.J. Reynolds High School community through personal service and/or the arts, demonstrate concern and support for others Financial need may be taken into consideration Award: $1,000 four-year renewable scholarship Application: Submit a 1-2 page statement describing how you fit the scholarship criteria to the R.J. Reynolds High School Guidance Office Deadline: April 15, 2018 Contact: Please see Mrs. Beale for clarification MATTHEW ALAN GFELLER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Criteria: This scholarship seeks to identify students who best exemplify the spirit, passion, and character of Matthew Gfeller. To receive consideration, nominees must demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of others, a passion for success (an “I won’t let you down” attitude), involvement in R.J. Reynolds High School Athletics (football should take priority if possible); candidate should not be receiving a full athletic scholarship, demonstrate outstanding leadership, school service, and community involvement, financial need, minimum GPA of 2.0, leadership; leading by example with good moral conduct Note: You cannot apply but must be nominated. Nomination must come from a teacher, coach or counselor. Award: $2,000 renewable scholarship to a full-time student at an accredited post-secondary educational institution Deadline: Nomination form is to be submitted to RJR Guidance department by April 15 2018. LEADERSHIP AWARD Criteria: To receive consideration, applicants must be residents of Forsyth County, graduating high school senior attending R. J. Reynolds High School, have a minimum cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.0, a transcript reflecting a challenging course selection, demonstrate outstanding leadership through involvement in student activities and demonstrate humility, compassion for others and a healthy competitive spirit Award: $1,000 non-renewable award Application: Submit a one-page narrative addressing his/her personal leadership, student activities, competitive spirit, humility and compassion to the R.J. KAPP WEAVER SCHOLARSHIP Criteria: To receive consideration applicant must demonstrate evidence of scholarship in both course selection and grades with a ranking in the top 15% of the class, financial need as shown by completing the financial statement, leadership in school or community activities Award: $ 1,500 renewable scholarship for a student who will pursue full-time undergraduate degree/s from accredited post-secondary institution Deadline: April 1, 2018 Contact: Download the application form from the W-S Foundation website JEANNETTE ANDERSON PARKER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Criteria: To receive consideration applicant must be a graduating high school senior from R.J. Reynolds High School, have high academic standards, participate in school sponsored athletics, demonstrate strong character and leadership skills, demonstrate school service and community involvement, demonstrate financial need, but not restricted to lower incomes (student’s financial need and merit will be equally weighted) Award: $2,000 non-renewable scholarship for a student who will pursue full-time undergraduate degree/s from accredited post-secondary institution To Apply: Submit a high school resume, personal statement not exceeding one page that explains why you feel deserving of this scholarship, one school recommendation from a guidance counselor, teacher, or coach Deadline: April 30, 2018 Contact: Please see Mrs. McClain or Mrs. Beale for clarification R.J. REYNOLDS HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1968 MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Criteria: The Class of 1968 Scholarship Review Committee will use the following, equally weighted criteria in evaluating applicants and selecting a recipient for the award: evidence of the potential for distinction at college or university through academic achievement in high school (a minimum, un-weighted grade point average of 3.5), evidence of service to others through school and community activities (include approximate number of volunteer hours contributed to all activities), evidence of financial need as shown on the completed Financial Statement from the application packet and from the most recent U.S. tax return(s) of the applicant, applicant’s parent(s)/guardian(s)/where applicable, and non-custodial parent Award: $ 4,000 renewable scholarship for a student who will pursue full-time undergraduate degree/s from accredited post-secondary institution Deadline: April 15, 2018 Contact: Download the application form from the W-S Foundation website
