Meet our Resident of the Month! Ilene Bjork

Ilene was born December 20, 1927 to August and Laura (Steves) Beyrer on a rural farm home north of Colfax in the township of Grant. Ilene was the oldest and grew up on the farm with a younger brother Norval and one sister Anita. Ilene went to country school for eight grades and then went to Colfax High School. As a child, she remembers reading and helping out

on the farm. After she graduated, she went to college at Stout for 1-1/2 years and studied In-Home Economics. Ilene married her high school sweetheart Lyle Bjork on March 29, 1947 in rural Colfax at Popple Creek Lutheran Church. Ilene and Lyle had three beautiful children, Gary (Jean) Bjork of Colfax, Kenneth (Mary) Bjork of Colfax, and Vicki (Robert) Mousel of Eau Claire. Ilene stayed at home to take care of the children and Lyle farmed. In his later years, he was a cattle dealer. As a family, they enjoyed visiting with their neighbors, doing school and church activities, and spending time together. After the children grew up and started going to school, Ilene decided to go back to school herself. She went to UW-Eau Claire to be an elementary school teacher. She taught at Colfax Elementary for 28 years until she retired. Ilene and Lyle enjoyed each others company and visiting and playing cards with their neighbors. Family was very important to them. They spent a lot of time with their children and enjoyed watching their grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up. Once Ilene retired, they began to travel with their family. Ilene and Lyle traveled to Europe for their 40th wedding anniversary. Lyle passed away in 1996. Ilene continued to live in the country by herself, and she kept herself busy socializing with her neighbors and her family. Ilene had a variety of hobbies, including sewing, reading, playing games (especially Mexican Train), cooking, baking, freezing and canning, general housework, and gardening. Ilene loves visiting with her children, along with her ten grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. In March of 2016, Ilene moved to Dove Healthcare – Orchard Hills Assisted Living. Ilene said, “I enjoy reading and the activities that are offered to here. I also love visiting with the people here.” Thank you Ilene for sharing your story with us!

Yes! Dove Healthcare is Actively Hiring & Admitting Amidst so many cancellations and closings related to COVID-19, Dove Healthcare is actively hiring employees and admitting patients and residents. We have received multiple inquiries and comments with misinformation and assumptions that hiring and admitting has paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and that just isn’t the case. We are working every day to fill a variety of openings for CNAs, nurses, and other departments at our 11 locations in northwestern Wisconsin. Furthermore, we are committed to providing care when called upon and that includes during this unprecedented time with COVID-19. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the administrator. Thank you.
