We provide a comprehensive program of scholarships and financial aid assistance. This assistance – along with costs that are lower than those at most private colleges and some Missouri public institutions – makes Missouri state a great value!

More than 17,800 of our students annually receive in excess of $130 million in financial aid. We encourage all students to complete the Free application for Federal student aid (FaFsa) to be considered for all available types of financial aid.

This guide describes sources of aid available to entering freshmen and transfer students on the springfield campus. While it attempts to answer common financial aid questions, we encourage you to call or visit our office for additional information.

The information below can serve as a guide to determine the costs of attending Missouri state. it includes required student fees, room and board, and books and supplies for the 2012–13 academic year. For further reference, current cost information is available at www.missouristate.edu/costs/.

personal expenses will vary according to your lifestyle. The office of student Financial aid estimates the cost of transportation, automobile maintenance, insurance, recreation, clothing and other personal expenses will average $3,850 per year.

* required student fees include basic fees (charge per credit hour) and

student services fees ($389 per semester). These fees are commonly referred

to as tuition. The fees listed above are based on 15 credit hours per

semester. The basic fee is $200.48 per credit hour for Missouri residents.

** The rate represents our room-style residence halls with a dining plan of

19 meals per week plus Boomer Meals.

Scholarships

applying for scholarships

■■ Grade point averages (gpas) are based on a 4.00 scale. in determining scholarship eligibility, grade point averages will be rounded to the nearest 0.01.

■■ if your high school provides both a weighted and an unweighted gpa, we will use the higher of the two to determine your eligibility for scholarships.

■■ Unless otherwise noted, class percentile and gpa are based on the sixth or seventh semester transcript, whichever is higher.

■■ students must have a diploma from a high school accredited by the state education agency, a regional accrediting association or a home-school diploma with the core curriculum requirement established by the Missouri coordinating Board for higher Education.

■■ students who are provisionally accepted to the University may not be considered for scholarships.

■■ scores from the December act/sat are the last to be accepted for most freshman scholarships (with the exception of the presidential, the Multicultural leadership and the centennial leaders scholarships, which use an earlier date).

■■ Missouri state sat requirements are based on a sum of the critical reading and Mathematics sub scores. The Writing score is not included in evaluation.

■■ Freshman scholarships are limited to students who enter Missouri state the calendar year they graduate from high school. students who graduate early from high school and attend Missouri state may be considered for freshman scholarships on an individual basis. scholarship requirements and deadlines will still apply.

■■ Transfer scholarships are limited to students who will enter the University having completed the required number of transferable college credit subsequent to graduation from high school.

■■ current students are not eligible to apply for entering student scholarships.

■■ students may accept or decline scholarship offers until May 1 for the fall semester or Jan. 1 for the spring semester.

The following general information applies to all of the scholarships listed in the following pages.

our top three competitive scholarships, the presidential, Multicultural leadership, and hutchens/sGa centennial leaders, require a specific application that must be submitted by December 1. application deadlines for other scholarship opportunities will vary. see the summary of freshman scholarships on the following page for information regarding these scholarships and how to apply. For our automatic scholarships, you need only to submit an application for admission to the University by

January 15 if you are entering for the fall semester, or by october 1 if entering for the spring semester. GED students and students admitted as exceptions to the high school core curriculum requirement will not receive scholarships unless approved by the scholarship committee. Formal appeals for special scholarship consideration should be directed to the assistant director of scholarships, office of student Financial aid.

The southwest district includes schools in the following counties: Barry, Barton, cedar, christian, Dade, Dallas, Douglas, Greene, howell, Jasper, laclede, lawrence, McDonald, newton, oregon, ozark, polk, shannon, stone, Taney, Texas, Vernon, Webster and Wright.

applying for financial aid

1. in order to be considered for all possible financial aid, you must complete the Free application for Federal student aid (fafsa).a. Online

To submit your fafsa online, visit www.fafsa.gov/. complete the fafsa in time for it to be received by the processor prior to March 31. applications will be accepted after this date, but funds may be limited. To make sure your fafsa is sent to Missouri state, you must list Missouri state as one of the schools to receive your results. The Missouri state federal school code is 002503.

b. In Person The fafsa is available from the office of student Financial aid or your high school or community college in January of each year.

2. after you submit your application for financial aid, you will be notified that your fafsa was received. This acknowledgement will include your student aid report (sar). read this information carefully to make sure it is accurate. if it is not, make the necessary corrections and return it to the processor. You may contact the processing center at 800-4fed-aid (800-433-3243) for assistance.

3. Federal regulations require Missouri state to verify information reported on the FaFsa for randomly selected students. For this reason, some applicants will be required to submit photocopies of their income tax returns to the office of student Financial aid. Using a formula established by congress, the fafsa determines how much you and your family are expected to provide toward the cost of your education each year. This formula takes into consideration family income and assets, family size, the number of children in college and many other factors to determine your annual Expected Family contribution (efc). if you feel the information reported on the fafsa does not reflect your family’s true financial situation, contact the office of student Financial aid for a special circumstances form.

4. after determining your efc, we will calculate your financial aid award. in april, eligible first-time students will receive notice that an online award letter has been created for them. This online award letter will list the types and amount of assistance that can be offered from Missouri state. You must access this award letter via the “My Missouri state” system at Missouri state and either accept or decline the aid offered before your funds will be released. students must maintain satisfactory academic progress in order to remain eligible for aid.

a program of the United states army designed to recruit and educate commissioned officers. roTc is an elective part of the college curriculum and interested students earn college credit while they participate. students are later absorbed into the United states army. rotc scholarships may include up to $17,000 toward required student fees per year, a $600 book allowance and a $250 stipend per month. room and board is not included.

student must be an entering freshman from Galena (Mo.) high school. if there are no applicants from Galena high school, a recipient is selected from students graduating from crane (Mo.) high school. The recipient must rank in the top half of the graduating class, have completed one or more courses in vocational agriculture in high school and show an interest in agriculture. When more than one applicant meets this criteria, class rank and financial need will help decide the recipient.

in addition to University scholarships, many organizations offer scholarships. check with your high school counseling office, local and non-local businesses/organizations, parent/student workplace and scholarship search engines for scholarships for which you might be eligible.

You must be admitted to Missouri state University to be considered for scholarships and financial aid. Entering freshmen are encouraged to begin the admission process shortly after the end of their junior year in high school. Entering transfer students are encouraged to begin the admission process at least two semesters before their intended semester of enrollment.

o send your completed application along with the nonrefundable $35 application fee (if you are a first-time Missouri state student) to the address indicated on the application.

o request that your official academic transcripts and act or sat scores be sent to the Missouri state office of admissions. To be official, transcripts must be sent to the office of admissions directly from the high school and colleges that you have attended.
