The nativity story is usually told to extenuate the positive aspects of the events surrounding Jesus’ birth. We often highlight the

shepherd’s encounter with the angels accompanied by the heavenly choir. We imagine a warm, beautiful, and pristine Christmas night with the gentle sounds of nature setting the perfect mood for this extraordinary moment. In reality, the animals were more than likely loud and the smell was probably overwhelming. Some focus on the three wise men who traveled a great distance from the east as they followed the star and presented their gifts to the child King. Although these circumstances were remarkable, we tend to forget the constant threat of being hunted down by Herod. From the moment of his birth, Jesus had been under a constant assault from Satan and his evil army. In the first years of his life, He and his family were foreign refugees living abroad in Egypt. In obedience to an angelic warning, they fled because it had become too dangerous.

Like the story of Moses, Herod ordered the murders of all the boys living in Bethlehem under the age of 2. I can only imagine the feelings of fear and doubt plaguing this young family as they ran for their lives. If that wasn’t enough, the whispers of “friends and family” who did not believe that Mary was a pregnant virgin, must have been a burden difficult to bare. Christmas has always been about love and peace but understand that it was born out of great adversity.

atrás, y extendiéndome a lo que está delante, prosigo a la meta, al premio del supremo llamamiento de Dios en Cristo Jesús.” Filipenses 3:13-14. Nosotros luchamos por llegar a nuestra metas personales , materiales y olvidamos alcanzar las espirituales con Dios y nuestras almas. En realidad, debemos aprender a correr hacia la meta con paciencia aunque parezca contradictorio es la verdad. La perseverancia que tengas será un pilar importante para que puedas llegar a la meta.La Perseverancia se manifiesta a traves de la fidelidad, la constancia y permanencia cerca de Dios a traves de la Iglesia. Si no pudiste alcanzar un matrimonio estable o una relación estable este año intenta de nuevo pero mas cerca de Dios,y si asi fue con lo material y laboral intent de de Nuevo con Dios, Corre la Carrera con Dios , no lo hagas solo. Te podrias lastimar en esa Carrera y cansar pero no descuides que el final de todo es llegar al cielo y muchos descuidamos lo celestial por alcanzar lo material. Olvida lo que paso este año ya que recordando o martirizandote por el fracaso no podras recuperar lo perdido. Prosigue hacia adelante con Dio ya que el da fuerzas al cansado y levanta al caido. Cumplistes alguna meta espiritual este año? No te rindas viene un Nuevo año.

Bill Albright is at Life Care Center of Hickory Woods for therapy. Barbara Allen, Jennie McCormick’s sister, has begun her chemo treatments. Olivia Atkins got a good report about her heart on Monday. No further treatment is required. Ruby Baldwin, Suzette Batson’s mother, Gwen Barker has begun a series of tests and treatment plans under the care of several physicians with anticipated surgery January 16th. Alesia Clark is taking beta blockers and is scheduled for an arteriogram on January 9th. Robert Clark, Jeremiah Brigham’s grandfather, is in hospice care at the VA after suffering a stroke. Dian Holiman’s sister in law, Vera, is in hospice care in Atlanta Lee Hutcherson, Kim Vaughn’s mother was scheduled to be moved from rehab to The Bridge of Hickory Woods. Scott Johnson, Jerry Johnson’s son, is awaiting test results. Sherry Kirby had surgery on Friday for stage 2 melanoma on the back of her head. They were also going to check lymph nodes and treat if necessary. Liz McGee continues to decline under Hospice care. Judy McKeown, Jill Evans’s mother, has been diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. Her surgery is scheduled for December 26th in Memphis. Pam Simmons, Nancy & Engles Pope’s daughter, did resume chemo treatments but they are on hold until her blood test results improve. Her husband, Neil Simmons, had knee surgery on Thursday. Paula Pope, Madlyon Waters’s sister, is receiving better treatment. James Rittenberry, William Rittenberry’s father, had tests to check for blockages. No results were available when the bulletin was printed. Duke Walker had no blockages on his arteriogram. Gloria Young’s bloodwork was very encouraging with everything in the normal range. We rejoice with her.

…Gina Jenkins on the sudden loss of her sister, Lisa Allison. Her funeral and visitation were this weekend. …Charles Waters on the loss of his sister, Marion Warren. Her services were in Philadelphia, PA on Friday. …Jon Reynolds on the passing of his father, Jerry Reynolds. Services are at Mayfair Church of Christ in Huntsville, AL today. Visitation is from 1:00-3:00 with the funeral at 3:00.

As we reflect on the holidays, we give thanks for the church of Rural Hill who was near and dear to our mother’s heart. She felt such a sense of belonging and acceptance with her wonderful circle of lifelong friends who shared her life and who held her up in the roughest of times. For your many acts of kindness and for giving so much of yourselves, we are deeply appreciative. Thank you for sharing the light of God’s love in so much that you do, you are truly a blessing! The Polar Post Office The elves in the youth group are happy to announce the annual Polar Post Office! Here are a few tips to help the elves meet their Christmas deadline:

envelopes

• Sort them by LAST name into the appropriate

• Pick up YOUR Polar Post in the foyer

Caroling and Chili Supper

Carolers be warmed up and ready to the leave the building at 4:00 pm TODAY!

We’ll travel to visit and sing with a few of our shut-ins. Those who do not go

caroling can still meet at the building for worship at 6:00 pm. After spreading Christmas cheer, we’ll all meet back in the Fellowship Hall for chili at 7:00 pm. Chili will be provided but please bring chili toppings, sides, drinks, and desserts.

Angel Tree Angel Tree cards are available for selection. Please consider giving to one of our own angels this year. All gifts should be wrapped and returned by Dec. 24th with the Angel Tree card attached. There is a blue bin where the gifts should be left.

Blood Drive Ezell-Harding will be hosting a blood drive on December 29th from 12:00 – 4:00 in the high school gym.

Coats, Blankets, and Book Drive Haywood Elementary School is collecting coats, blankest, and children’s books for a giveaway on January 12th, 2018. Donations will be accepted in the foyer until Jan 10th. Volunteers are also needed. Please see Vickie Bell.

New Ladies’ Class Topic The Wednesday night ladies' class taught by Diana Crawford will begin a new study on the book of Revelation January 3. They will use a workbook focusing on the timeless truths contained in Revelation and how they relate to our lives.

with us on our annual Family Ski-Trip. We will leave the

church building at 6 A.M on Saturday and return on

Sunday around 11:30 P.M. We will spend these two full

days skiing at Perfect North slopes in Indiana. The cost is
