Volume 20– January 29th, 2016

Thank you, Mrs. Kissel, Mrs. Hoyt, our volunteer parents, faculty and staff, and of course our students for making our second annual 2016 Around the World Day a

huge success! This year, the way countries were chosen were those that Pope Francis visited

recently or plans to visit in the near future such as: Iceland, Turkey, Egypt, Brazil, Spain, Argentina, Philippines, Ireland, Colombia, Thailand, Australia, Cuba,

United States, and yes even Vatican City...

The school held an Around the World Day Prayer Service. The themes discussed dealt with treating everyone like brothers and sisters. In other words, Fr. Wesler emphasized how we would want to be treated...

with love. We also talked about Pope Francis' plea to fight "global indifference".

SJA students can take charge, fight injustice, and make an impact. Therefore, we aim to instill the value of giving back to our community and to the

world, at an early age, as SJA requires community service learning project hours for kindergarten through eighth grade.

Select students processed and held banners proudly representing each of the

countries for our Around the World Day in front of the altar. Students read passages from the Bible and we all prayed for special intentions.

Students dressed in the colors of their country and some wore hats/ flowers and

different vestments representing their assigned country. As students "traveled" from country to country, they had their "passport" stamped

and answered questions about the country they were visiting. They also had the fun task of finding a picture of Pope Francis which was hidden

in the country (classroom). Lastly, students shared with their partner class samples of traditional foods.

The decorated hallways and classrooms are ready for you as we hope you will

come and visit our February 2nd Open House, geared mostly toward current SJA parents,

from 8:15 am to 10:30 am!

no matter how many hours per week. Thank you for all your support and help to

keep our children safe at St. Joan of Arc Catholic School.

Cub Scout Corner

This month, St. Joan of Arc’s Pack

323 Cub Scouts have been busy.

For our first Wolf Den meeting

back from break, we had a guest

speaker from the Boca Raton Fire Department speak

about the importance of service in your community.

Firefighter Rob and the Wolf Den Scouts discussed

why being trustworthy, helpful, and kind (all aspects of

the Scout Law) is so vital.

The Pack also enjoyed a weekend camping trip at

Elmore Park in Davie. They fished, shot targets with

BBs , and completed a service project planting trees.

We thank all those who made the camping trip such a

fun and successful event.

This past weekend, the Wolf Den was busy completing a community service project to benefit the Nuns right here at St. Joan. The boys worked hard to plant rose bushes and prune the area in front of the

Mother Mary statue near the convent.

We look ahead to an exciting event – the Annual

Pinewood Derby! We plan to cheer on our Scouts on

January 30th in the Mercy Center.

GREAT JOB Pack 323 Scouts & Good Luck with your

Race!
