ABOUT OR SHALOMOr Shalom Spiritual Community is the outgrowth of a chavurah founded in 1978, and affiliated with the ALEPH Alliance for Jewish Renewal. Or Shalom’s Rabbi, Hannah Dresner, has been with us since 2015 and our Rabbis Emeriti, Rabbi Laura Duhan-Kaplan and Rabbi Hillel Goelman, remain actively involved in the congregation. Founding Rabbis Daniel and Hanna Tiferet Siegel are frequent guests and participants. We are a participatory, creative, and inclusive community dedicated to preserving and enlivening our traditions, renewing Judaism for the 21st century.
We welcome everyone to participate regardless of ability to pay. Our High Holiday services welcome about 500 people each year. High Holiday memberships provide an essential part of Or Shalom’s operating revenue, and are critical to our ability to maintain programs for the entire community. Suggested fees per individual are: Adult $380 | Young Adult (18-24) $54 | Child $18
Purchase High Holiday memberships or pay what you can at orshalom.ca/hiho, by cheque, or call the office and pay by credit card.
Participation in High Holidays is included with Full Membership. To find information about our flexible fees, and an application form to become an Or Shalom member, please go to orshalom.ca/membership. Or Shalom Synagogue

Co-sponsored by Inter-Religious Studies Program at Vancouver School of Theology and University of British Columbia Diamond Chair in Jewish Law and Ethics. Funding support from Phyliss and Irving Snider Foundation.
Daniel Matt is one of the world’s leading authorities on Kabbalah and the Zohar. Recently, he completed an 18-year project of translating and annotating the Zohar. In 2016, Stanford University Press published his ninth volume of The Zohar: Pritzker Edition, concluding the Zohar’s main commentary on the Torah. For this work, Daniel has been honoured with a National Jewish Book Award and a Koret Jewish Book Award; the latter called his translation “a monumental contribution to the history of Jewish thought.” Currently, Dr. Matt is writing a biography of Elijah the Prophet for the Yale Jewish Lives series.
LOOKING AHEAD TO OUR YIZKOR SERVICEThe names of loved ones we have lost during this past year will be read aloud during Yizkor service on Yom Kippur. To add the names of your beloved lost since last Yom Kippur, email [email protected] by Sept. 30.
