The History of Volunteer Recognition Day
People who have risked their own safety in order to help others expecting nothing in return have existed for hundreds and thousands of years. Ben Franklin, one of the Founding Fathers of the United States of America, was also the creator of the very first volunteer fire department that helped put out many Philadelphia fires. Florence Nightingale, often called the mother of modern nursing, was just as much a hero as any of the soldiers fighting in the Crimean War when she cared for the wounded. Acclaimed whodunit authoress Agatha Christie volunteered as a nurse in the Voluntary Aid Detachment of the Red Cross Hospital in Torquay from 1914 to 1917 when her husband Archie was fighting in World War I.
Mother Theresa of Calcutta, a Catholic nun, spent most of her life in India caring for the those suffering from HIV/AIDS, leprosy and tuberculosis. More recently, many Hollywood celebrities such as Angelina Jolie have made numerous trips to various impoverished parts of the world in an attempt to understand the problems of those living there and find ways to help them. All of these people and many, many more, have changed the world for the better forever.

Nancy’s Notes Happy Spring, Happy April Fool’s Day, and Happy
Easter, EVERYONE!! I hope you are able to spend time
with friends and family to celebrate the greatest holiday of
the year. After contemplating the unfathomable love that
Jesus portrayed through his suffering and crucifixion, we
are blessed to turn our minds to the glory of his
Resurrection! What a privilege it is for us to serve God who
loves us enough to send his only son for our redemption!
Alleluia!!
Beginning April 4th and continuing for seven more
Wednesday evenings thereafter, from 6-8 PM, Pastor
Sherree and I will be facilitating the Grief Share program.
The program consists of three key elements: 1) a video with
helpful information on grief-related topics; 2) facilitated
small group discussions: and 3) a personal workbook for
individual study and application of concepts. These three
elements work together to help you recover from the deep
hurt of loss. We have presented this program in the past at
Scandia Shores and participants have found it very helpful
in the grieving process. There is no cost to participate and
even if you can’t make all sessions, you are welcome to any
you are able to attend. We do need to know if you plan to
come so we can have a workbook for you. Please contact
either Sherree or me (651-415-9793) if you, any family
members, or friends are interested in attending this life-
giving program.
God bless you all real good! Nancy

Hospitality Meeting will be April 2, 2018 at 3:00pm. We had a successful Open House here at Scandia Shores! There were over 30+ people touring our building in the two days. They were impressed at how beautiful Scandia Shores was and helped us spread the word about our independent living. We will be full in no time!!!! We have one and two bedroom units for rent if you know of anyone interested in an apartment. Remember if your friend comes in and rents an apartment and the person says that you sent them here you will receive a $500.00 credit on their 4th month here! Thank you for spreading the word about Scandia Shores!
