English Grammar Practice. The verb Present Simple vs. Present Continuous Some verbs which are called stative verbs are not used normally in the continuous aspect. These are know, like, love, hate, have, understand, need, remember, see, think, want, believe, seem, smell, feel, taste, look, cost. We can use however, some of the verbs from above in the continuous aspect, but with a difference in meaning: - I think (= believe) you are right. - I have a cat. -I see Henry at work every day. - The coffee smells nice. - The cake tastes delicious. ...but... ...but... ...but... ...but... ...but... I'm thinking (= considering) of buying a bike . I'm having lunch/ a bath/ a dream/ fun I'm seeing (= am meeting) Henry tonight. My cat is smelling (= is sniffing) the milk.
